I agree with randomwab. In my opinion remakes are (for the most part) absolute crap! Take The Italian Job. Here we have a film that has stood the test of time for over 30 years, it featured a fantastic cast, a fantastic getaway scene, plenty of unique bouncy humor that could only come from Britain, great acting, the indispensable charm of the '60s and one of the best (and most ironic) endings in movie history! It really was the most fun I've ever had with British cinema! And in the remake all of that is well...gone.

Edit:

As far as good remakes go the only one I can think of is Little Shop of Horrors. (and that was a remake of a remake.)

p.s,

Great to be back!!

So, kind of off-topic, I hear the guy that did the Dawn of the Dead remake is doing a film version of The Watchmen based off a screenplay which included David Hayter on the creative team. I actually have high-hopes for it.

Personally, I'm against remakes in theory (film or otherwise), but not all of them are bad. Sometimes they can improve on the original film/videogame/etc.

Hows about cover songs? I know they're a totally different animal, but still.

I think the only "good" remakes, or re-tellings are the ones which are "remade" by the original directors -or creators themselves. Like: "Desperado," "The Man Who Knew Too Much" ect.

True that. It is the creators themselves who know their work best, so it is pretty obvious why really.
