How big will the patch be?
WIll it just be a few MB´s or do we have to worry about not being able to burn it on a normal 700 MB CD(s)?
Thanks for the updates!!!

I'm sorry if this question has already been asked in the thread, but what format is the patch going to be in?

Luck is just a name given to the high amount of uncontrollable events that govern reality, and assigning that to numbers is just the result of the need of our brains to find patterns; even when none are available.
Well, traditionally, it actually comes from number symbolism: 1+2=good, therefore 12 is good. 1+3=bad, therefore 13 is bad type thing. Number symbolism was originally used due to the fact that there are many similar numbers in the Bible used over and over. So the pattern was in fact there, but the people who saw it went a step further and made it mean something more than it might have. As for luck itself, I do agree that it's one way for us to avoid explanation of unknowns (if that's what you were getting at).

I'd estimate the patch to be about 100 MB. 200 tops. It shouldn't be as big as the CD.
(It won't matter anyway - once you apply the patch, your original ISO will only be a little bit bigger. We've confirmed the patched ISO fits on a CD with room to spare, so that's not a worry.)
As far as format, I'd have to get back to you on that as that will require us to take a look at the process we'll be outlining for you to patch it. (i.e. we'd like it to be as painless as possible and while I have a couple of solutions in mind, I'd really have to test out their feasibility, etc.)

The translation patch will include this fix.
Thanks for answering

. Also thanks to be willing to further hack the game to address an emulation issue that will probably take years for the author to fix :p.

Just out of curiosity...
For the patch, do we have to apply it to
both of the .ISO images since there are two discs?
Oh, and thanks a lot for working so hard to make all this happen

Yes, each disc will need it's own patch applied, since they are different.

13 is a bad luck number, but we're ocidentals (I think) that did not speak japanese so we can't play Policenauts until this translation ends, so we are already unlucky. No news here.
For those that have read Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series: Watch out for 19. THAT is an ill omen number.

Fuck 13, you know why?
We just fixed (obviated, really) a crash bug Konami missed in the original game (it's that one I had mentioned much earlier), so that means we're at 12! Hooray!

Wow! Down to 12 bugs?
That is incredible!!!

What happens when you eliminate the final 12? Does that mean you can begin Beta testing?
I have no idea what alpha or beta testing is other than it's a still in trial. Either way! Way to go!!!

All can be revealed by reading the last hundred or so pages of this thread, heh...
Or maybe someone remembers the juicy bits and can link to it...

Okay, so when 12 goes down to zero, that means we're reasonably sure the game is where we want it for release.
I don't expect to start beta immediately after, but I think when we get to like... say, six or so, I'm going to be bugging everybody "are you sure we're happy launching with the script like X and the graphics like Y" etc.
Beta means 'the game is how we want it for release' (all features installed) and it's all about final playthroughs to find bugs. Beta means we're happy with the scripts and graphics and we're pretty much expecting to release, except if we find bugs in testing.
Really, my list of 12 is a combination of bugs to fix and features to install.

I think it's hilarious that you guys were able to not only find but also knock-out one of the bugs that Konami itself missed lol
You guys must be feeling pretty BA right now.

I would be if it were the last one, but right now I'm just waiting for my double-shot of espresso to kick in before I hit bug number... 6? I dunno. Had an idea for it. We'll see.
There's one puzzle in Policenauts that lets you view it in English or Japanese - the original I mean. Since it doesn't make sense now (as it's all English), we're trying to remove the option menu for it, or at least replace it with something more sensical.

Leave it in but make english the default now?

Whatever causes less of a headache, I suppose...

Thank you for posting an answer for that question slowbeef

I am sorry if it is a redundant one. I promise to think a little more before I post a question.
Getting ready for this patch has forced me to want to understand these tech things!!
My appreciation!!!

It should be English and Hideo Kojima-glish, obviously. But that would cause all kinds of text-leaking problems and amp up the data size a lot.

How related is this game to Snatcher ?

It's a separate game from Snatcher. The basic gameplay is similar though, with text-based adventure sections (though there's now a point-and-click aspect) and shooting sections (both of which are greatly improved). There are also a few cameos from Snatcher characters. The plot is unconnected, though. You could see it as being in the same universe, but no more so than Snatcher and pre-Solid MetalGear.
