yes I am testing 4 methods right now, I'll let you know if I get any good results out of them.

DON'T GIVE UP!!
Here's a poem for all of you that I wrote to serve as inspiration!
Surrender?
I like the water
Because I'm an otter
...
What are you waiting for?
Go through the other door!
If there is no time for
Mistakes
Then you gotta score.
Make
Into a "Marco Polo" game:
You're either hot or cold
Or lame-
Like the fallen soldier's name-
Tag on the floor
Flag raised in surrender towards
The other side to end the war.
Instead of dying heroically for
His country.
Like his fore-
Fathers did in honor of
Peace, liberty, and love.
...
Who
Would decide
To give up?
Hadn't tried
To live up
To the fight
Trained for every day and night?
But a man with no bones
In the face of evil ones!
Done by some who shouldn't come
Fight evil
When they're just too dumb--
To commit!
Choose to quit
In the sight of mere hopelessness.
This is it, so upset
Full of fear, left for dead.
All regret
What it did
When you chose to lose the bid
For life and death, love and hate, yes and no-
You're too late
To save yourself.

Everyone else
Suffers because you failed,
Backed out, and buckled in.
The good side should always win,
Never surrender!

That had almost nothing to do with anything, but I found it entertaining nonetheless.

Well first time registering but just wanted to give a hats off to you for the work your doing, I have this game myself for saturn and can't wait to get the psx version and try it out. As for your bug, have you thought about consulting other rom hackers on this?

So, are the end credits translated and all, but they crash on the emulators? Seeing as that is kind of a different type or bug (the credits do work on the real hardware, don't they?), maybe you should go on with the patch, and other hackers will eventually make a patch for that problem (be it a patch for the ISO or the emulators).

Hey, hey, not that I want the emulator users to be fucked up (I'm one of them :().

Yeah I'm sure everyone wouldn't mind getting a hold of the patch, beating the game and having it just crash at the end credits would it not be possible to just leave them as they are with no alterations?

(as you can tell I know nothing or how all this coding and programing works LOL)

Anyway I unserstand why you are not just releasing it as you have put so much had work in to this it just wouldn't be right to ruin it by not finishing it properly.

The crash isn't caused by the patch.

I'm sorely tempted to request a memcard file for the very end of the game so I can see the crash for myself on my unpatched discs and ePSXe/pSX.

I'm not in the mood to barely understand the game through for a 3rd time.

Did they say that? I can´t remember.

If the problem is in the emulators... why don´t contact with the creator of ePSXe (for example) an
try to figure out a solution? Don´t know, sounds more practical fix the emulator than fix one game...

Only being curious.

A thought occurs.

I don't know if this is considered so elementary that there's no need to discuss it -- since I didn't see it specifically being mentioned in the past few pages -- but I was thinking about the version differences in ePSXe and more specifically the changes in the program's emulation between updates.

For instance, I'm led to understand that the game Chrono Cross works perfectly in ePSXe version 1.5.2 but it's consequently broken in the version 1.6. To me, this spells out that something in ePSXe's method of emulation has changed betwixt updates.

What I'm getting to is that I was wondering if there's a chance that the end credits in Policenauts might display correctly in some earlier ePSXe version? Especially so if it's an issue inherently related to emulating the game. It'd be insane to run PN through each individual ePSXe update, sure, but I wonder if it might be worth the effort to try running the end credits through a select few "keystone" ePSXe versions, such as 1.5.2?

Just my two cents.

Also, nice to meet y'all!

Would it bother anyone if the game crashed during the credits at the end?

Us. I know you guys want to play the game, but there's no sense rushing this issue.

Me neither, but I've played the game myself without the patch, both on PS2 and ePSXe and with the latter it did crash before the ending credits. (Although it did work the second time, the graphics were all messed up.)

What I find more annoying with ePSXe is that the sound during FMV's is out of sync.

If you people think it's an emulator problem, why don't you try with pSXfin?

The team is using pSX to test the patch, which I believe is currently the best PS1 emulator.

Yeah, well, pSX doesn't feature mouse support (which is really important to me considering it is a point and click game), so I'll be waiting on the ePSXe problem.

The pSXfin emulator is often called pSX (Check the caps/no caps letters)

I'll try pSXfin and see what happens. Also SSSPSX had the same behavior as ePSXe which makes me think maybe it's a Plugin issue.

Also trying to get PCSX w/ Debugger going.

Also employing the help of other ROM hackers soon (but I gotta do all my due diligence first).
