Finally got around to joining up here.

Man can't wait to play this game in english. I fooled around with the psx version in epsxe and it ran fine for the length of time i played it(alley way shoot out)...and I played around with the PC-98 version as well and it looks really nice i have to say. I would have kept playing but I thought i would be doing a grave injustice if I didn't wait and experience the game in all its translated glory :)

If this game is anywhere near as cool as Snatcher, which is an amazing game then I am really really looking forward to playing it once the patch is released.

Also I know some of you might throw this on your PSP(Me) as well as your PS2...so I made a background image for the psp....Its your regular 480x272 in png format. Remember to rename it to PIC1.png so you can use it in those custom eboot makers.

Enjoy

Policenauts had a lot of Japanese and Engrish in the graphics. Now it doesn't. I would say there are about 60 image-based things we had to change to English, not counting the opening and ending credits which were quite simply massive.

I can say confidently that as of this build I'm making during typing this very post!!! the Policenauts English Mod has absolutely no Japanese or Engrish in it whatsoever.
This is really for all of the staff, but you're the chattiest.

While I can imagine I've asked it before, I'm not sure I have. Anyway, how do you guys plan on putting this on resumes? It's a high profile project, obviously work intensive, or speeding of hair loss at the least, and on the fence about something to shy away from due to the legal gray area ROM hacking falls in and out of.

I was just thinking about this today...

I assume its pretty obvious that Hideo Kojima and team are aware of this project since i would think that someone maybe in an interview or just through talk mentioned the awesomeness that is going on here.

I wonder if they would be cool enough with maybe working with you guys somehow and releasing this on PSN or something. They already have released Policenauts on the JP store so I think it would be awesome if they contacted you guys and an agreement was reached and they used your patch and re-released this through PSN for NA.

And since most PS1 games on the store are going for 5.99(1 disc) I think it would be cool if you guys got compensation for every game sold. Say a $1 or so...and if 10,000-1,000 000 people download it then you guys are getting a nice reward for all your hard work.

I know that you guys are doing this for free and because you just want people to experience the greatness of Policenauts but I think it would be nice if you at least get at least some kind of lil reward since you deserve it.

But most definitely when this patch is released I am sure you can expect ALOT of media attention.

I think this is gonna turn out good for you guys. Hard work pays off in the end. :)

One of us used it on an interview! (not me) In all honesty, from a tech standpoint, ROM hacking sounds pretty hardcore on an interview. I work in web so it's not super relevant but it is kinda neat to say you saw a side-project like that through completion.

Also, besides the MIPS, we all sorta did things in different languages. I did a lot of Perl, Scarboy did a lot of Ruby, the old programmer and Artemio did a lot of C++, so this has really been a strange crash course in language. In retrospect, it might have been easier to standardize, but honestly, the proto-typing aspect of Perl helped a lot for me, as did the ease of Ruby Gems when it came to the graphics stuff.

Glad to hear that. I can imagine that will be a weight off your mind, now, at least. An awkward weight which was super glued to your legs for some time. You can throw onto the pSX team's lap instead and just simply forget worrying about it. So I guess that officially means the project is in Beta, no? :mrgreen:
As Artemio and slowbeef said, not quite yet. We're finding other tweaks we need to make before we can move on. Nothing major, though.

I'd rather not comment about this until after release, but basically, we're not expecting that to happen. If an offer was made then I'm sure we'd go for it, but I know I'm not anticipating it.

Very nice wallpapers, by the way.

Some people I work with know about it without me having told them, actually. They were like, "Right on, man."

Not really, I have no use for a resume... =P (and I hope I won't need one in the future either)

ehem... um... I was told to get off haitus to express the emotions of gratitude from all who excitingly await this project... well, first. I think I should inspire and then convey!
Journey

When you find yourself on a lonely path
And cry for help when you don’t have,
Time will tell and all be well
As mends the pains where darkness dwells.
On the road to a unknown land,
Only to hope to understand
That a destiny with good company
Can bring the sword to a better hand.
Weakness seems a devil’s cue,
As each step leads… closer to
Let legs be strong and sight be long
With arms to bear the burden through!
Hidden traps and barrier new
Have bitten back to hinder you,
But be fearless now to get around
Accomplish the mission due.
When hearts are torn between two loves
And scars are born… deep enough:
Follow right the tossing tides,
And pray the journey serves you up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now the conveying part! As due to the fact that we as bystanders are useless in helping, I think this is suitable!
Roses
Roses
Are red
And violets
Are purple…
It’s hard to draw a heart,
So I’ve drawn you a circle.
Pansies
Are pink
And daffodils
Are yellow…
I couldn’t bake a cake,
So I’ve made you some Jell-O.
Tulips
Are white
And hydrangeas
Are blue…
Wouldn’t it be alright
If I said “I love you”?
For as long as
Grass is green...
And dirt is brown…
Well, you know what I mean,
It’s the thought that counts.
We love your Policenaut's team! Oh, and I love Slowbeef's let'splay thing about Snatcher, it brings back good times!
--now I go back into the shadows again... :(
I am self employed, and hope I continue to be so. We develop systems for TV autimation, and thus a resume is something I haven't done or required in a practical sense (yet), we've been on the business for 10 years now and I hope that our company continues like so.
I really am done now. if i do it again, you can ban me (again) ;) I kinda just wanted to spice things up even more. this bored is already arousing enough with the computer lingo and constant updates. I don't need to fizzle the doozle anymore.
as stated in the post above, NO MORE WORDS! good times, good times... say goodbye to old akor, now... the defective cellar inbred has gone through a surgery to be numero uno akor de normal!
and for the people doing this project. If I was a computer programming company... this extra piece of info in a resume definitely would sound good! come on, really!
Ok, thanks for answering. It was pretty careless of me not to think of self-employment lol.
I agree!! But slowbeef said that after the releases of the game, he will write a paper with the metodology of the hack, problems and solutions..
Akor, dude... quit beeing such an attention whore, please :(
Hey guys, just wondering...
having (apparently) destroyed almost every big stone in the road, are you able and prepared to give an estimated release MONTH?
From what I can understand; they still have to implement the beta features and then Beta test (followed by crushing any bugs along the way) it before release. So it's still a ways off yet, really.
You're half right. All the known beta features are actually finished and installed. We haven't begun final beta testing because:
- There's a couple known bugs that cropped up that we have to see if are still around in the latest build. (But I'm back down to 1 last verified one, then there are 2 more that are unverified and I have to see if they're still unresolved - these three things will hopefully happen in the next couple of hours)
- Marc needs to playthrough some more and finalize the script.
- Artemio is working on making sure it runs on the PSP.
- We (Artemio has mostly been doing this but I'm about to become free to help) have to make the build patchable.
So we're actually starting to get pretty close. Beta's a big deal, so it's really going to have to be all three of us agreeing that the game is how we want it for release, then our final testing strategy to make sure there are no last bugs.
edit: We could theoretically go to beta with known bugs, but I'd rather the script be in a final - or mostly final - state first, and this is all for naught if we can't make the damn thing a patch anyway, so I might as well kill bugs now.
Thank you guys for doing this. You're all awesome!
I was able to pick up a PS version of Policenauts at Anime Central (convention) today in Chicago, so I'm all ready for the patch. :mrgreen:
I watched eBay for a while, and I got an amazing deal on a "THE BEST" version. I was also quite lucky to have 87th offer me an original version a long time ago. (That, too, was quite an excellent deal, as well.) I recommend eBay because, while you'll need to pay closer attention to the auctions, it will still end up being cheaper than purchasing the game from sites like Play-Asia.
Where is 87th, anyway? I don't feel like buying God Hand, and I know it's because I haven't seen his avatar in a while.
