Speaking of Mega64, I would love to see a Policenauts sketch from them. I think you know what I'm talking about.

If anyone is wondering, the reason we bothered creating a Japanese version of the website was for any members of the development team who visited it.

Since we're on mega64...
The mega64 with Kojima made me smile especially with cliff being like
what the fuck?... didn't cliff diss metal gear? I think it was about online play.

Is there a pdf Policenauts art book around?

I don´t know about a pdf, but I´ve seen an artwork book on ebay, 35$ each.
Wanted to by it, but I had no money to spare at this time.-

Since the topic of Snatcher's music came up and I've been willing to post this for quite some time to celebrate the final stretch of finishing the Patch - here's my remix of the awesome theme from Snatcher "Pressure of Tension".

Enjoy =)

Seriously? That's a weird thing to complain about if you're a famous figure with a public blog.

He probably was pissed because he doesn't know any English and wanted to know what it said.

Well, he knows some English. He just really sucks at it. Most Japanese people do, actually.

Hideo Kojima wrote:I can't help but wonder if translation would strain the writer's soul from the words.

HIDEOBLOG has been translated into English since a few days ago. It has been hosted on the site during a trial period for overseas readers. We have done this in response to a great demand from overseas.

I'm skeptical nevertheless.

I asked people working in a few magazines' editorial departments. Most of them affirmed my skepticism. They said that my writing and my words are no longer HIDEOBLOG once they become translated. HIDEOBLOG's beauty comes from the intimacy of expression--Hideo Kojima can communicate his words and feelings to his readers.

HIDEOBLOG isn't a novel with a plot.

I write HIDEOBLOG as a private diary before proofing it as a blog. I update my diary daily, so it is unpretentious, unguarded writing.

Think of it as similar to a poem or a prose poem.

Only information will remain if the tone and the rhythm change. HIDEOBLOG will become nothing more than daily news once it has been chewed, digested, and processed into English. HIDEOBLOG should stay as it is.

I agree with all this. Then again, people living in foreign countries cannot understand Japanese.

As technically true as he is, I have this inkling that he's not a poet, and unless his blog is just saturated with language puns and Japanese-isms, he's being a little weird about this. But it's his, and he has full power within him to frown at people who want to learn from him, but can't understand his crazy moonspeak.

Devil's Advocate asks, is the translation is so worthless and gets so much wrong that he's right facepalm it?

You know, I respect Kojima for his work and his vision. That's why I enjoy to collect his work and play his games. Twenty years is a long time to like one thing, and I've tried my best to improve my knowledge of Japanese culture to enhance my enjoyment of both games and anime.

You would think, since 1998 when MGS established the US as an important market for Kojima's work, he would have gotten around to learning a little English. He certainly had time to get all his Pokemon up to Level 100...

Hell, if he had included the Japanese voice track in the Metal Gear games we might have learned enough to read his blog without translating.

I'm not saying his reasoning is incorrect... how he feels about his blog is valid. Once you put something out there though, it doesn't really belong to you anymore. Even if the translation is broken, we take what we can get because we really want to know what's going on.

Where are things standing right now slowbeef? I feel like we've been near the off topic train for a couple of pages...

Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Gozu, Izo) also refuses to bother learning English. I'm starting to think it's an issue of pride and maybe nationalism.

I think your right it could be a pride / nationalism thing.
Or maybe they think if people are really interested they
would make a effort which is a ridiculous and somewhat
narcissistic view.

I was learning Japanese which isn't really hard its just
remembering words. Its putting them together in a
sentence correctly with all those things.. I forget the word haha
wa ga na all those many different ones. Past tense was
hard kind of too because you have to change the word
and ad the thing that makes it past tense...

I have forgotten most the hiragana and all the katakana =(
But I have to draw draw draw so its ok.

OH, I see... So Kojima writes like this, poem-like.

I actually thought it was akor again.

You're right, Japanese grammar isn't hard at all. It's probably the writing that intimidates most people.

Isn't that the way most languages work? I don't know if I'd call it hard. Just something else to learn. It's far more regular than, say, English.

Huh... this sudden influx of talk about poetry gives me the heeby shweebies! Here's an update. Of poetry...
For the team and the fans! Keep it up, don't give up! I love you all!

Timeless

Brothers and sisters,
Lend me your ear!
Stay persistent,
For the time is near…
All works shall be turned in,
Whether finished or not!
End what you’ve begun,
Before the stroke of the clock.
It is more than a grade…
It is your life!
Let the bulb not fade,
But nourish the light.
If you are stumped,
Then sow a seed…
You’ll rise from a lump
And grow a tree…
Procrastination,
Is a serious offense:
From the game you’ll be taken,
And put on the bench.
And… if you don’t work
Or try to change…
You will be burned
By the pain…
Image
Plans

Stars are falling,
Sun is shining,
Moon is full,
And the planets are aligning.
Time for harvesting
The wine for dining
Cause the moon is full
And the plant’s at it’s finest.
Birds are calling
And wolf is whining:
“Moon is full,
And the lamb’s with the lion”
Eye is watching,
Cyclone’s winding,
Moon is full,
And storm has lightning.
Make plans,
Big plans…
