What do you mean of this MGS3 Special edition? is this the one with the second disc?

He means MGS3: Subsistence. The stand-alone version of Subsistence contains two or three discs (some versions contain a third disc, showing MGS3 filmed and edited to make a sort of movie), while the version in this pack only contains the first disc. The first disc of Subsistence is basically just the American version of Snake Eater with the new 3D camera. Most of the new, or European bonuses were included on the second disc, so many are disappointed that it wasn't included in this pack.

Yeah, count me on that! But I did see a few Us Ebay sellers selling the MGS3 (not subsistence) with a bonus disc... I'm quite intrigued about that 2nd disc, but since I have the Limited edition already, i guess I was already fine with that.

Do you have the special edition 3-disc or the regular 2-disc? I thought about buying the 3-disc one on ebay, but I really don't have the money right now, and I didn't really care about the content on the third disc anyway.

The third disc isn't very much use if you're not a collector. I like having the ability to watch the first MGS4 trailer in DVD quality, but that will likely come on either the MGS4: Special Edition DVD or MGSaga 2.0, anyway.

87th wrote:What are the manuals like? Are they the originals?
I'm probably late with this, and someone might have already answered, but the manuals included with the collection are black-and-white, stripped to the mechanics and not much else. It seems Konami USA has chaned their manuals since the release of Snake Eater, as each game I've seen purchased from them has had these terrible manuals. The manual for Subsistence was laughable at best, especially when you compare it to the encyclopedia included with the Japanese Subsistence.

It's sad, because color manuals do not run these companies up millions and millions of dollars. The cost to have them in color isn't too much, but it's obvious that they cut down on them just to make that extra buck off of sales.

I don't really mind the style of the manuals, since it seems to fit the latest set of metal gear games (Portable Ops and Snake Eater). It's probably not the cost that matters to the company, it's probably just the style they chose.

I respect your personal opinion on the install, but it it certain they are saving bucks and it is lower quality. Juts look at the kind of paper, illustrations, inks and content used before and now, the company is just minding costs there.. or was that irony and I failed to see it?

Hmm, I just went and re-examined my subsistence manual. Yeah, you guys are right. It's crap compared to any of my other games I own. The cost of nicer manuals would only cost them several thousand dollars. Compared to what they make, that's nothing. I guess it's kinda like transfat. Companies who use transfat only save a few thousand bucks a year (at the cost of many unhealthy people). Hopefully, MGS4 changes it's manuals to something better. After all, it IS the last game in the series.

From what Ryan Payton said, they won't. According to him, Konami of America believes that there is no interest in a colored manual, which is bullshit. It costs nothing, it's better quality, and it just feels nice to know the manual is in color, y'know? There is no reason for them not to, they're just trying to save corporate pocket money.

It IS also the most expensive game in Konami history because of the actual size and because developing games on PS3 is supposedely very hard and resource consuming

This is the first time a MGS game doesn't have a Japanese special edition at release (I mean one of those full fledged boxes).

If they are saving money for the Japanese market........
you do the math

Ouch! I feel sorry for them. As Jim_Sensei said, it just feels better to know you have a higher quality item. The pages for the Subsistence are next to being as thin (and cheap) as encyclopedia pages. It would also be cool if they could do some (colored) art for the INSIDE of the manual yaknow? They may as well throw what they can into making this game special. I guess this is all just nit-picking though. I'm sure the game will be awesome.

Since Ryan Payton was previously suggesting that some may consider replacing their old copies of the MGS series with this, it's a disappointingly cheaply-made package.

I'd much sooner own three games of varying box sizes and cover-art styles than own a series of severely cut-up games in one box.
