To avoid such an issue, assign someone to "re-upload duty;" Someone should be given a backup of the patch so it can be made a torrent or even just a download on a different website server. That way, even if Konami shuts down the website, the patch will still be accessible somewhere off Policenauts.net.
I know I'd be pissed if the patch was only available for a short time. The thought of missing it completely is even worse.
By the way, Osiris, thank you very, very much for the update! It's been a long time and waiting for even the smallest update was, at times, unbearable! (Admittedly, I got too excited over a fan translation. It's my nature.) Hearing a progress report more than made my day!
Being the first poster for this page (on the default display settings), I thought I'd take this opportunity to say "please no spoilers of any nature in this topic." I don't want to sound rude, though - It's simply a request to be respectful for those of us who avoided information up until now. (And are continuing to do so until we get to experience the game firsthand.)
Thank you for your understanding.

Glad you enjoyed it. So until you hear otherwise, that is the latest progress and what we're still working to overcome.

I agree. It goes for the rest of the forum, really -- always use spoiler tags for any spoilers. And I apologize for mentioning that bit at the start of the PC98 version. In hindsight I should've used spoiler tags for it.

You know, the final cut of Blade Runner and now the translated version of Policenauts. I think this Christmas is going to turn out to be one of the best, I'm sure.

I hope you are able to overcome those las t few hurdles in time for christmas. I believe in you! Hey, are you keeping good contact with all the Project people? What if someone just gave up, do you have backup. I'd be glad to pay for this translation if money will motivate.

I think they're all set, Alex. The project sounds like it's going well - Well enough to reach the "final hurdles." I'm not good at estimating things, but, judging from Osiris' post, it sounds like a month-and-a-half to two months of work left. (Perhaps much less if the team gets lucky in the programming end and beta tests insanely quickly.) Either way, there's still plenty of anticipation time left, the patch is still free to all, and the team is still solid and dedicated.
If you need something to keep you busy in the meantime, keep watch on Mother 3's translation patch - They're finishing things up there, as well. (If you guys don't mind me advertising a different patch.)

Take a look if you need something else to be excited about.

I think I just realized something... When this patch finally gets released, I am most very quite certain that I will cry.

We'll all celebrate differently. Personally, I will be thrilled for Hideo Kojima fans and the English-speaking gaming community at large. While you still have to acquire the game itself, English speakers will, at the very least, finally have the option of playing the game to its fullest extent.
By itself, the release of the patch will be amazing - Even though the industry has been around for decades, finding the best of the best is a difficult, costly endeavor. Currently, Policenauts is relatively cheap, even for importers, and being able to understand this game will be a real bonus.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate all the work you guys are doing on this project and am really looking forward to it being complete, the day I get to play Policenauts in english will be one of the greatest days in gaming and you guys will be revered across the internet and forums as gods

and if you eventually finish a Saturn version, i'll love you even more
best of luck to you guys in finishing the project!

Since Policenauts is still so obscure, relatively few will truly understand the impact the patch will have until, perhaps, MGS4 is released and Kojima Pride is increased once again. We need to come up with a way to give Snatcher and Policenauts more publicity. Perhaps if we could send a press release to IGN or GameSpot, they might post an article to be seen on the main page.
To the development team, would you guys consider sending such a document over to one of the editors? They've made an article for you guys
in the past, why not now?

I get the sneaking feeling that MGS4 will be bringing a lot of new people to the SNATCHER scene.

speaks for itself.
I can't find the picture, but theres also the same rotating symbol used in SNATCHER's dialog scenes used in some sort of view in MGS4.
I think that MGS4 might drive up the prices of both Sega CD's and SNATCHER on ebay, which Is why I'm trying to secure myself a copy now.

I don't know how big an effect MGS4 will have on awareness of past Kojima games. Only the hardcore are going to care, and I feel the hardcore already know about them. Maybe if a widely read website or magazine does an in-depth feature on them and their relationship to MGS4, but barring that, I'm skeptical.
As for contacting websites and magazines, we've been in touch with a few places, and they've said they want to review the patched game when it's available. Can't say where right now, but I imagine it'll turn a number of people onto the game.

I know quite a few people from TUS whom are interested in the Policenauts patch, Osiris, don't worry. I reckon a good cult-sized audience will play it. Not a lot of people, but enough, if you get my meaning.

Judging from the size of our mailing list, I think so too.

I remember when I first started translating it, I thought to myself, Okay, how many people are gonna play this, like 20 tops? But now that I see a good number of people are looking forward to it, I definitely feel a lot better. Thanks, guys.

Metal Gear Mk II's appearance is exactly why I think people will start to take notice of Snatcher. Snatcher research will ultimately lead to Policenauts, as it did for a good number of us. (If only Snatcher's Sega CD or PC Engine version was ported and unlocked for the user after MGS4's completion!)
I'm glad that magazines and websites are actually taking notice of the patch - Every time I learn about the attention the patch has gotten, I feel that much better about the eventual reception. Any additional plans for getting the average gamer's attention?

I dont think you should worry about stuff like this, trust me, people are going to want to play it. I remember a few months back on 1up.com an editor (Jeremy Parish) talked about your patch on their "1upshow", discussing his interest in playing Policenauts when the patch is released. Also, your patch has already been advertised on one of the biggest game forums around "Neogaf". Its hype is bound to pick up again once the patch is finally released.

I'm sure interest was originally low since most people were just simply unaware of the title. (Like I said, Snatcher research is just about the only way to find out Policenauts exists - If there were mainstream websites dedicated to Kojima's full history, I think there'd be a ton more Penguin Adventure jokes floating around.)

Speaking of which, maybe a section on Policenauts.net should be created [soon after the patch's release] that displays all the different articles and magazine scans discussing the full patch. Plus, on the main page, there could be quotes from these articles, so people are that much more convinced when they arrive at the site that the patch is high quality.
Just another thought I just had.

if a post was made on the NeoGAF forums when the patch was released and if you contacted some of the gaming blogs I am sure this will get a lot of love and attention

It sounds like the patch will have plenty of support as-is. I really can't wait to see which websites write articles and really push the patch.
By the way, I'd like to take an additional moment and thank the programmers of the patch and their diligence despite all the obstacles related to projects of this magnitude. As oddly-placed as this comment is, I felt extra encouragement and gratitude was in order, especially as the project nears the "finish line."

Press releases, and news articles will help. But I think people finding out about it on their own will still be the main source of new fans. I am interested to see what effect the Metal Gear robot from Snatcher being in MGS4 will have on the popularity of the Snatcher/Policenauts series though. Of course there was the Policenauts poster in MGS1, but that didn't seem to help Policenauts popularity very much.
Also, since I'm new here I feel compelled to give my thanks to the translation team for translating this game into English. I've been wanting to play this game for years, and soon I finally will be able to.

Nice name. I actually finished reading Do androids dream of electric sheep yesterday.

Ugh. Wikipedia are getting rid of all of the character photos/music CD's photos for Policenauts, since I didn't put in enough copyrighted tags or what have you, to save them. Damn it. Took me a long time to get all of those photographs together, assort them, add descriptions and upload them before changing the layout of the Policenauts page a little. Really brassed me off, tbh...
