If every retarded thing people on the Internet do bothered me, I'd have slit my wrists years ago. Just one of those ubiquitous facts of life you have to live with. And it's not that the Internet attracts stupid people, it's that it puts you in direct connection with everyone, morons included.
Lap dogs... Maybe they just got impatient waiting for the patch, and were like "If it's not out by Christmas, it won't exist! Hmph! *pouts* Take that, junker boys! You broke my heart!"

Well put. For me, I stopped bothering with Wikipedia since every contribution I made was taken out by some fanatic. Wikipedia accepts your entries when they're properly cited, but the "regular users" are the ones to watch out for. There's always someone claiming an article. (Check which username appears most often in the History tab.) Those are the ones deleting everything that everyone adds.

I once corrected a spelling error in an article, and later got a message claiming that I had defaced something, and that I had been warned. I wouldn't doubt the presence of an elitist lot circling 'bout something like that.

There is: the Wiki Nazis. They need their own article, come to think of it.
On a related note, I like the new pics Johnny Undaunted added.

Wow, newspaper98's a fuckin' prick. $20 says that guy trolls wiki pages to compensate for something. When the patch is released, it deserves a spot, don't you guys think?

It all depends on whether the
source is pure enough.
... They really are nazis.

Yeah, I'm totally gonna spell this wrong but..."Zeig Heil!!!" It gets the point across. And I'll accept that claim about pure sources when my college professors accept wikipedia as a valid source for papers.

Johnny's contributions are great. (Since my pictures of the characters were taken down, even though I thought I gave a source for everything, correctly. Oh well).
I just happened to notice it, since there is a very apparent gap in the page, you can see where it was supposed to be (as well as a massive gap of the section for the 'Cancelled English Version' which previously explained the massive demand for the game to be translated and the various petitions that went through Konami, only to go nowhere, etc etc). Wonder if it was a 'you know who' member not pleased with the translation, certainly seems to point in that direction, at least? Either that, or somebody who just hates Policenauts...
Anyhow, I'll write up a new version of the news. Any help people here would be willing to give, I would be grateful. Especially since I do not know the exact dates of certain events that came to pass (like the month of when it came to fruition).

I never even thought about that. Though I would think that Marc would get some talking to if that were the case, wouldn't he?
Edit: The link to policenauts.net is still under the external links though...

There are tons of other articles that contain references to fan translations, especially the Japan-Only titles. Therefore, it makes sense that Policenauts gets a section for it - Otherwise, it's a lost opportunity to advertise.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really want to bring the Snatcher and Policenauts wikipedia articles to GA status, but time and other commitments are keeping me from doing so.
Wikipedia has been making up some very strict policies lately though. For example, you can't use too many copyrighted "fair use" images in "list of x characters" articles for some reason, which is why the character images uploaded by Henry got deleted. The Metal Gear character articles also had their images removed. You can't make composite images either. This is why I uploaded the Policenauts group shot that illustrates all the major characters in the game. Honestly, a single group shot works better here anyway. I've also uploaded a similar image taken from the Snatcher Pilot Disk for the Snatcher article.
A tip, when you upload an image to wikipedia, you have to mention the name of the article you're going to use the image for in the "fair use rationale" explanation.
I decided to upload the cover artwork to the PC-98 Policenauts as well, since the infobox is supposed to contain the game's cover, not a logo (even though nobody complained about the Policenauts logo there, I did it just in case). I simply chose the PC-98 version since it was original. Then I decided to do the same thing for Snatcher and upload the PC-88 cover, while keeping the Sega CD cover. That's where I got the idea of uploading the conceptual cover art of the unreleased English localization of Policenauts.
Alot of statements in Wikipedia require a "professional source" backing it up. Professional doesn't neccesarily mean reliable though. It simply means the guy got paid to do his job. You can't put a link to a fan-translation project, but if an article from say, 1up.com, mentions you guys, its fair game.

Well, Joystiq has done at least one article, not to mention the magazine articles that were scanned and posted elsewhere in this topic. With the right references, anything can stay up.
Sadly, a lot relies more on the Wiki Nazi's than the Admin's.

So it was Tomiharu Kinoshita who designed the original artwork for the PC98 version, huh? If so, I think it's his best work in the art department ever.

Kinoshita.... Indeed, agreed. He's much more of a concept artist, besides that his style has fallen out of time... Hence why he doesn't do it much anymore (I think the last thing he designed characters for was, correct me if I'm wrong, but
G.A.S.P!! Fighter's NEXTream, aka,
Deadly Arts, that fighting game for the N64 that noone paid attention to. Le sigh.

I can say I disagree with the guy's assertion about the notability (or lack of) regarding fan projects. Certainly in the case of the media outlets who have ran stories or contacted us directly. *shrugs*

They will probably decide it's notable once an actual patch is out. I mean, it would apply directly to the fact that there was not a North American/European release and the only way non-fluent speakers would be able to play the game would be due to the fan translation.
I'd say that would make it EXTREMELY notable (not undermining current efforts, of course).

hey, osiris. I was reading up on that guy's profile, and it said that he couldn't put fan translations up because a) he's a prick, and b) because anyone can translate a game, even if they don't speak the to and from languages...seeing as how that's what you do for a living, maybe you should contact that guy and set him straight.

Anyone can translate virtually anything without knowing either language that well. We have software translation like Babelfish for that nowadays. But not everyone can translate a text to a high degree of accuracy unaided. So it
is a skill.

That's true, a polyglot myself I can testify to the shortcomings of machine translation which will never replace human(oid)s! Late Douglas Adams was wrong with that whole babelfish malarky

Are you sure that single lone man who is faced with the nearly impossible task of finishing the translation did not give up?
Just kidding. like Big Boss said "Will alone is everything!"
Hey, tomorrow is Christmas in my time.
So... Merry Christmas!!!
game now?

Safe to say: They weren't dicking us around and releasing it on X-Mas. It's the 26th in most time zones now .
Oh well, back to studying Moonspeak in my spare time.
