I've recently rewatched the series last week and I have say I am not sure which ending I liked best. The series endings or the movie endings. Both have their pros and cons being that
Spoiler:
Shinji breaks from his self-hatred in the TV series
but doesn't really answer any of the plot based questions. Meanwhile the movie did answer the questions, but
Spoiler:
Pretty much killed everyone and turning them into LCL sans Asuka and Shinji.
and was a bit of a downer compared to the first episodes. Any fans out there?

Frankly, after seeing it all several times (it plays regularly in Japan on the cable channel ANIMAX), I am less and less impressed with the series. I like it, but certainly not as much as I used to. Perhaps I'm just getting too old.

To be honest, I only saw the full series a month ago. I was very satisfied with the ending (especially after discussing it with friends), and I don't think I'd like End Of Evangellion's ending from what I've heard about it. I'd still need to watch it before being able to make a valid complaint about it, though.

Different strokes for different folks makes the world go round for sure. I first caught the series in the mid90s and then again here in Japan in 2000, last year and a couple of times in-between. Thus, it has kind of lost its charm. Or rather I should say, the ending has. The beginning is slow, but the middle is freeky deeky!

I feel the beginning helps you feel sympathetic towards Shinji, and then you feel happier for him when he makes friends. You also start to warm towards characters like Rei, Misato and Asuka.
Spoiler:
All of this adds to the shock when find out about their terrible childhoods. I guess I just felt relieved when Shinji felt his life had meaning, after such a depressing struggle through the series.
I know a couple of friends who have lived in Japan, and after hearing about how many cosplayers, merchandising and repeated episodes there are, I can see how people can get sick of Evangelion over there.

I think part of what appealed me to the series were it's simularities to FLCL (my favourite anime). I mean, most of the main characters have a lot in common with each other (sometimes in personality, sometimes in backstory, sometimes in relationship with other characters, sometimes simply in appearance.
