PC98 screenshots

Post by Marc »

Snake Plissken shared some of these screenshots with a few of us a while ago, and I thought those of you who are fans of the game would be interested in seeing what the original version looks like under emulation (unfortunately, the sound is choppy and renders the game largely unenjoyable, especially if you know Japanese and are playing it to listen to the dialogue as well as the music). In many respects, I think it's the best-looking version.

Oh yes ^_^, as well as the best sounding too if the sound ever works. You actually get to hone up the real dark feel of the beginning with Old L.A.'s backdrop coming into play with the sexy sax playing. (Unlike in later versions where "End of Dark" replaced it.)

There will be a miracle some day with this port if we can find some extreme sound driver therapists.

I like the "Police Man" in the second pic.

Like you said, since the Konami logo, Old LA and the End Titles are Red Book, they run fine, but all other sound is choppy.

I've always felt he has a strong resemblance to the T-1000 =P

Just make sure you have the right hardware before you do, otherwise you'll be spending all that money for almost nothing -- like me (so far, anyway).

Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, he does. :) But I meant the words "Police Man" on Jonathan's badge on his desk.

Ah I see! Sorry about that, I recalled the image order and trusted my memory, but I was wrong about what Police man you were refering to =)

Those are some nifty looking screenshots. I've noticed that Kojima used to like to put his games on mostly obscure Japanese computers first, and them port them to popular consoles- I'd never heard of the NEC PC-8801 or the PC-9821 before I discovered Snatcher and Policenauts.
