Hey, Ratperson!

How's your English dubbing coming along? How many hours of dialogue have you recorded so far? Can you kindly upload whatever you've recorded up to now?

He's been temp banned for 4 days, so who knows if/when he'll come back after that.

4 days will give him time to dub the whole game! I want to see this stuff.

Oh, yeah, I heard about that. Why now, though? It seems he was really raising hell back in May.

Because he was warned and given an opportunity, and he came back to the same habits.

I gave up on the dubbing project. U guys were right all along. I hope one day someone will dub the game but it won't be me.

Please don't be sarcastic.

Wow! He can detect sarcasm now!

But seriously, I myself wouldn't want the game dubbed. The subtitles are enough for me. I know you, Ratperson, won't rest until the characters speak English like they're supposed to, but I would be quite happy with English subtitles and nothing more.

Why is it no one has just subtitled the game yet?

Because they're still extracting the text that they would translate for the subtitles. It's been going on for five years now.

Unfortunately, PSX isn't as easy as working with other formats, like NES, SNES or Genesis/Megadrive.

It's my understanding that PC98's harder to translate?

I don't know if that's true. No one is working on translating that version right now, so I can't say for sure. But there have been other homebrew PC-98 translations done before, so it should be technically possible. The only problems we would have with doing that version are:

1. No subtitles during the dialogue sequences. You do get an option to turn the dialogue and talking heads off and replace them with subtitles after you've finished the game once, but the game isn't as fun without the voices. We could post the translations for those parts online for people to follow along with during the game, but it wouldn't be quite the same. What I would suggest doing to solve this problem is to put the translations both in the text-only subtitles and on a website.

2. PC-98 emulation still doesn't emulate the game perfectly. As you've seen in the YouTube videos, the PCM sound stutters throughout the game. You can always turn the sound off, but again, it isn't as fun.

My ideal versions to translate would be the Saturn and PC-98 versions, because the Saturn version has everything the 3DO and PS versions have plus more, and the PC-98 version is also interesting in its own ways. However, Saturn emulation also isn't the best right now, so all we have is either the 3DO or PS version at the moment, and the PS version is far better than the 3DO version in every imaginable way.

Well, for the record, I did try Policenauts in SSF (whatever version's the latest at the moment) and it ran perfectly.

This is a rather new emulator, isn't it? Let me try it right now.

Damn, I don't have the required specs. But I'll take your word for it. This is something to consider for later. Thanks for the heads up.

How far did you play with it?

Not too far- chased the gunman into the alley (oops, a micro-spoiler!) and then I pretty much got stuck. But the game ran like a charm, trust me. I couldn't see any obvious emulation problems.

What do you mean "got stuck"? You just click on everything to progress in that part. :P

I was a bit low on patience at the time...I'll try and play more later today.
