If anyone's wondering where you could obtain the Policenauts telephone card originally, they held a competition with the shooting trainer in the game and gave them out to anyone who got over 50 points.

Nice one. :)

There's a lot of great dialogue that comes up in the Shooting Range. Here's an example:

Ed: Target Mode wasn't in the PC-98 version. I heard they added it in later versions.

Jonathan: What do you mean by "PC-98 version"?

Ed: Well, I don't have all the details, but apparently they made the story behind the Policenauts into a video game.

Jonathan: A video game? Sounds like fun.

Ed:You'll need to buy one of the systems it appears on, first.

Forgive me my ignorance, but is that dialogue from the game?
Haven't played Policenauts yet, but that actually reassures some Kojima quality dialogue, lol.

I like how they broke the fourth wall and at the same time, maintained a sense of immersion. Not many Kojima games do that when they do the fourth-wall break.

Yeah, it's from the game, but this is my translation of the Japanese (there's no English version of the game).

There are quite a few fourth wall breaks, particularly in the Shooting Range and the bomb defusal. Here are some more I've compiled:

(in Shooting Range)

When your performance begins to drop:

Ed: Are you feeling all right, Jonathan? You sure it wasn't someone else playing
that time?

When Ed explains the points for the Man Target:

Jonathan: I see, it's just been placed on top of a Circle Target. That's why the point areas are the same, huh?

Ed: Maybe the developers got lazy?

Man: Hey, that hurts...

Ed: Did you just hear something?

Jonathan: I didn't hear anything.

(bomb defusal)

When you die once:

Jonathan: We'll be fine this time. Don't worry.

Ed: Don't worry?

Jonathan: Yeah, don't worry. You don't feel as much pressure after you've died once.

Ed: Yeah, I guess you're right.

When you keep dying:

Ed: Hey, the maze has gotten easier.

Jonathan: You said the maze changes depending on your ability.

Ed: Really? I said that?

Jonathan: Yeah. So this means I suck, does it?

Ed: Well, look at how many times the thing's gone off. We can't be here all day trying to get through this.

Jonathan: You set it off, too.

Ed: I did?

Yes, I know there isn't xD
That's why I'm eagerly waiting for your's and Snatcher's project to develop :)
No pressure tho. I can wait ;)

Heh, those are some funny dialogues.

Btw, Johnny Undaunted said that Kojima didn't usually broke the 4th Wall while still mantaining the gamer's immersion. Humm, what about MGS2 ending?
There were also some in MGS and Snatcher, iirc, like Codec momments or MK-II commentaries.

Well, now the scan for the card is up. It is in the same scale as the rest of the site... So it might look small.

Here is a bigger res image for you guys at the boards if anyone cares for such stuff :)

it is nice to see that the 50 points are equivalent to 50 call units =P

Thanks for those scans. My guess is they held the event at a game store or stores like companies still do today.

I'm a big telephone card fan. I have MANY, well over 100 various cards, mostly of SHIROW MASAMUNE'S work. I'll look it up on YAJ.

Yes. The machines haven't changed. But soon, they will stop selling them as telephone card use has stopped. They will become REAL collector's items.

You mean you can actually still get these things? How?! I want.

Where would one obtain these cards from?

A very expensive option is here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Policenauts-Telepho ... dZViewItem

(I wouldn't recomend that one at all) or searching yahoo auctions japan if you can buy fro them... If you mean regular telephone cards at Japan, then I'd guess that any 7 eleven kind of "conbini" at Japan (convinience store) would do...

Ah, who wants a normal Japanese phone card, they're as rare as fat kids in a McDonalds joint. There's a 7-11 around the corner from where I live that sells 'em.

I'll check it out, thanks.

I need to get back to selling my Shirow Masamune GAL GREASE cards
