PSP or DS?
Which is your favorite out of the current two? The DS or PSP? I went out and bought a DS Lite, and I can honestly say that I like. A lot. Very nice.
Anyway, I thought it was ironic, as I personally reckon that the PSP sucks. Everyone thought the DS would teabag and the PSP would dominate, but from observation, it's the other way around.
Any thoughts?

Agreed I love the PSP. Mine is collecting dust because I lost the charger.Snake700 wrote:I think the PSP is the best. Because it´s stronger, have some good games (Persuit Force & Tekken) and can do more than the DS

I have both, 2 DS and one PSP. I believes it depends on what you want, but in general I prefer the DS. I has more good games and is way more portable, easier to set a vs game with and also the battery lasts way longer. I believe it is a better portable system, although the PSP is a powerhouse and is great because emulation.
I simply believe the PSP is not a very good portable but an excellent system that has yet to reach a stable point in terms of software, but the DS is already there in that sense. This past few months have given some great games to the PSP though.
Also, the DS is a great tool to have around, not just a game system. As a portable Japanese dictionary it excels even compared to the Palm ones.

I'm tired of system wars. It's not about the console, it's about the games. Just look at the PSP. It's a nice piece of technology, but so far, it has a very lackluster library of games to choose from. Even if the DS weren't in the picture, it'd still look very weak on Sony's part. Now they've definitely improved their library over the past months, but it's taken quite a long time. I still wouldn't say it has a killer app as of yet, though maybe Portable Ops will change all of that.

You're right Missing, it isn't about system wars any more, but the games. We should be grateful that the opportunity exists for us to choose a system, and not be railroaded into one choice. If there is one thing to be said for console wars it is the choices they produce for consumers, and the inevitable upward rise in the quality of games available. It's better that the gap between the DS and the PSP is so close, hopefully it will just spur on more original development of software.

I disagree. I've always thought of the DS as one of the bulkiest systems ever to come out onto the handheld market. You need to open it up to play it, I'm always losing the stylus, It's so huge I lost my grip on mine onetime, And I personally think it's lineup of games is crap.Snatcher wrote:I have both, 2 DS and one PSP. Cool, I hope it doesn't affect that much your hairstyle though. It is a matter of taste of course, but rough numbers would say otherwise in volume, just do a little research. Anyway, I believe your comments to be very fanboyish... I was just stating obvious stuff, adn as said earlier, it is a matter of software. Any other talk would end up nowhereratperson665 wrote:I'm always losing the stylist, It's so huge I lost my grip on mine onetime,
A shame you don't enjoy the games or utils though... There are several great ones. I carry both almost everyday though, I only base my experience on that and what I've coded in each.

I'm an owner of a PSP and I voted for the DS. Reasons:
1. It's not something you can just throw in your pocket and go unless you don't care about scratching up it's oh so beautiful screen. The DS folds which protects it's screen so it takes care of that problem.
2. Battery life. The PSP's battery life isn't bad considering it's abilities but it's only good if you know you'll always have access to a charger. I take mine to work sometimes during the evening shift which is perfectly fine but I ALWAYS have to recharge it or make sure it's charged the next time I play. It's not something I can just grab on a moments notice and know that it's going to let me play for a few hrs because it's likely that if I've played it at all beforehand it's only going to have 1-2hrs of battery life left. The DS has close to 3 times the battery life which means you don't really have to worry about having a full charge for a good play session.
3. Games. It's probably been 6 months since I've played an actual PSP game. Most of the good games for it just seem to be rehashes of something I can already play on the PS2. It's main use for me is playing emulators. I mean don't get me wrong I love it for that fact and it's the systems saving grace but a systems success shouldn't be based on OTHER games designed for OTHER pieces of hardware.
When you add all of these things up I still like the PSP a lot but in terms of the best PORTABLE system the DS wins hands down in my book.

I'd love to get a PSP, as it's a gorgeous piece of kit and has a ton of potential (and Lumines!) but the library seems to be almost entirely composed of PSOne / PS2 ports.
Also, small and quirky pick up 'n play games like Ouendan, Phoenix Wright and so forth really captivate me somehow... so DS for me.

You can add the fact that you can buy PSone games for 15$ or less on your PS3 and transfer them to the PSP. Hopes this stops all these PSone ports, the PSP is a great platform, but most developers won´t make original games.HorseFactory wrote:but the library seems to be almost entirely composed of PSOne

On the other hand, GTA:LCS was a original game (even though it´s based on a PS2 game) and ignore the fact that it was ported to the PS2, because the PSP version came first, and it´s way better than the PS2 version
