Has anyone else played this? I was really impressed by it, and I'm not a 360 fanboy or anything (I don't even own one; my cousin and I went through co-op mode at his house). It felt a lot like some of the videos we've seen of MGS4, namely the graphical detail and gameplay (sticking behind cover, blindfiring, etc.). I also imagine MGS4's cut-scenes might be similar to its approach.

I was going to buy it 2 days ago, (because i read there was a store, who sold the game at a half cheap price of 400 DKK [let me get back about that later], however they where selling it for about 600 DKK, so i brought Call of Duty 3 instead, however GOW looks, very cool!

It's a great game. It's got a very solid single player and is excellent to play co-op, you can tell alot of work went into planning the levels for both ways of playing.
It's probably one of the best games i've seen on 360, graphically and gameplay wise. It felt alot like Resi 4 in gameplay and general pacing and such. And having only a handful of weapons available through out the game meant you had time to experiment and pick a solid arsernal.

I heard Kojima was quite impressed by it at E3, and he joked about collaborating with its creators to make "Metal Gears of War".

I played it a lot last week, befor the wii took all our attention =P
But it is inded very detailed. The story is very average, but the co-op mode is incredible. I've been playing it with a friend over xbox live, and it really shows tons of detail at 1080i.. the only problem though is when videos kick in... You might think that they'd do all the cinemas real time, but there are some dvd quality videos thrown in there, and compared to the real time 1080i graphics, they really look bad. I hope they don't do that again in future games.
It is a very impressive game graphically and in co-op mode indeed.

I was so dissapointed by this game....
With all the hype you would expect a story in the game, but no....nothing. The trailer that came out a year ago had more story then the actual game itself.
The thing that really pisses me off is that almost every single person I talk to say that GOW is there favorite game ever, and when ever I tell them my opinion I get bashed with fanboy comments.....either by fanboys or people calling me a fanboy.
Truth is...I pretty much hate all the next gen systems. Just waiting for a gem to come around.

Yeah, definitely would've liked to have seen more story, but I suppose they'll present more of it in the next 2 games.
About the ending...

Indeed I agree about the story. I believe the game is completely unremarkable and won't be remembered after a while, it is all about hype over the looks.

Story was pretty bland, but there was alot that could have been expanded on. The game begins to tell you about many things, the Pendulum Wars, E-Day, Marcus' trial and such. They start to tell you about these, but don't finish, something I thought was odd.
Given the ending, it was clear that more games in this universe were planned, and now two more have been announced, I look forward to an improved story.
However, I still think GoW is a great game, one of the few I will forgive for having a lack of story. The gameplay is so solid, I don't have any complaints I can think of.
Gameplay over story, just like Resi 4.

I agree. I can't tell you how long I'd been waiting for a game that implemented full "duck-and-cover" shooting, instead of just strafing and peeking.

RE4 is another example. But as long as the gameplay delivers in spades, that's all that really matters. There have been plenty of games to offer engrossing storylines, but few to deliver such an unparalleled presentation as RE4 or Gears of War. And excellent gameplay is primarily what we should be concerned with -- after all, if I want story, I'll read a book or watch a movie. I don't need a game for that.

The gameplay is fun for awhile, but after an hour or so it just getting boring and repetative(Multiplayer and Campaign). Plus theres no real skill development like there is with halo...
Ive beaten it about 4 times, and everytime I go to play it again I just get bored and turn it off within the first 10 min. I was hoping this was going to be the counter part of UT2K7~Gears would be the game for story and Unreal would be for the addicting gameplay...but in my opinion gears lacked both...story and gameplay.
...I want to play some some unreal.

You don't enjoy the "cover" element?

The covering is cool and all, but its not the first game to use it.

No, but it's probably the best.

You haven't played Rainbow 6: Vegas yet then. Probably the best cover system ever.
and I bought GoW the day I got my 360, just over a week ago. It's solid. I've beaten Hardcore (started out on it right away) and am doing Insane now. I don't like the online play though.

I bought this game for my newly acquired 360 and will agree with those that are saying it has been EXTREMELY over hyped.
It was really fun for the first few hrs but after that it's been steadily slipping downhill for me.
The story is essentially non-existent, well at least of anything I could care about. You feel no emotion towards your enemies. I mean you get to the final boss and are thinking "That's it!? This is the last guy?". The last boss might as well been one of the generic grubs you fought throughout the entire game. That's how insanely boring and unimpressive of a character he (or should I say "it") was.
Extreme lack of variety but maybe this is common with all shooters. I wouldn't know since I'm not a big shooter fan. There are really only two enemies you see for 90% of the game and that's the standard grubs and the little wretches or whatever they are called. Yeah the berserker's are cool for the whole 3 minutes they are on screen but other than that there is nothing to speak of. Even the "boss" fights suck. The huge spider that they had been building up for half the game (you get fleeting glimpses of it several times) turns out to be a complete let down. You literally run over and hit a switch and it falls into the lava and that's it. I kept waiting for it to pop back out again but nope, after all of the build-up and commercials the big spider battle lasted all of maybe a minute.
The game has tons of retarded glitches, close quarter melee combat just flat out doesn't work half the time and I see nothing really amazing about the cover system.
6 months from now I'm willing to bet nobody will be playing this game on any sort of regular basis.

My exact feelings ^
I just hope developers learn from this and realize that amazing graphics wont make an amazing game.

Developers thinking that graphics do not matter in a game, and substance does? Ha, that would be the day!

*American developers
Companies like Treasure, Nana-on-sha, Inis and SNK all know what comes first.

Well, I'll reserve judgement on Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.

Well, I meant Capcom are loyal to their fans, not the best makers of games in the world, they do a lot for their loyal fans though. Like putting Final Fight characters into Street Fighter for example.

And then making an awful new Final Fight game? (Final Fight: Streetwise)

Yes Capcom is a mixed bag.. but I love them anyway. They have deep lows, and steep highs.
