Adventure Game fans -- Hotel Dusk: Room 215

It's another old-school-style DS adventure game, but it's rated M (or T, I've heard both, haha) and supposedly has a really good, grown-up, thought-out story. It slipped under everyone's radar because Nintendo hasn't promoted it AT ALL for some reason. You'd think they'd be trying to capitalize on Phoenix Wright's popularity.

It looks great, has a really gritty-gravelly presentation and character art.

Anyways, at worst it's unique and at best it could be the next great adventure game, so I'm checking it out this week.

Gamespot review

Japan-anese movie for Hotel Dusk

Check this out, it looks so fantastic. You turn the DS book-like too, like Brain Age.

Penny Arcade's positive write-up

Maybe this resurgence of adventure with convince Kojima to make another.

Rommel mentioned this game to me, not so long ago, and it did impress it must be said. I'll definitely get this, I have Trauma Centre and Phoenix Wright, so getting this is inevitable, graphic adventures are amazing and thanks to Phoenix Wright, we may be seeing a resurgence of games with really well thought out stories, characters and plotlines for a change, and what a welcome change that will make.

One more reason for me to pick up a DS. I know this sounds stupid but I feel compelled to support games like this whether they are good or bad in hopes that Kojima and other innovative game makers will recognize that the adventure market still has a glimmer of hope.

Dammit, I want this! It's just been released (as far as I know), but the base exchange isn't carrying it yet. All they have in stock is a million copies of "That's SO Raven!".

I hate it when old parents get to choose the inventory.

Yeah, I got mine last night -- it's REALLY REALLY good. Definitely the best-translated Nintendo game I've ever played, and it probably almost could be rated M.

The art style is really cool and fresh (well-animated pencil images for all chars) and you have a full 3-D space to move all around. The story is unique and the dialogue's funny and pretty inspired, and it's interesting to have an N char who's an alcoholic, swears and yells at kids (and not in a goofy Conker way).

Hopefully these kinds of games will start coming out for Wii soon as well.

He's already planning to do one with Goichi Suda (director of killer7) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_%27S%27

Yeah, I can't wait for whatever the hell Project S materializes as.

And yes, Phoenix Wright 1 was the best game I'd played in maybe three years (besides Snatcher). PW2 is pretty good too (naturally). I love story- and text-driven games, I miss the good ol days.

I'm trying to sell my DS Trauma Center though cos I barely got anywhere and now I'll just play the Wii version.

While we're on the subject of Project 'S', this popped up in the news today-

I'm guessing this is coincidental rather than some planned appearance to talk about Project 'S'. It's nice to dream, though.

Mine is on its way. From the GT review it seems I will fall in love with this one, at least for its style and visuals.

Definitely.

Another cool thing btw is that you can actually get a game over by screwing up, unlike every other newer adventure game that basically spoonfeeds the game to you.

So if you're skulking in an off-limits place and do something dumb like make a loud noise, you can get busted. Or if you harrass people (too much), etc. IMO takes you into the game more since you have to think about WTF you're doing and consequences:"Yeeaah, hitting this guy with a crowbar and stealing his shit -- probably not the best COA."

I´m not into adventure games, but on the DS, it looks intersting, maybe i´ll buy it.
