The Project "S" topic.

Thought it was about time for one. IGN have just posted a new interview with Goichi Suda, which asks about Project "S". Although it doesn't reveal anything, it does show that the mainstream gaming press are finally taking notice of the game, and it suggests that more details may leak out soon.
This topic will be used to contain all details and speculation about the game, until enough important information is revealed, and each detail deserves its own topic.
If you're interested here's the quote from IGN's interview-
IGN.com wrote:IGN Wii: There is word that you're planning to work with Hideo Kojima on a game for Wii known only as 'Project S.' Is this true?
Suda: I am sorry, but I can't make any comments on this.
IGN Wii: Is Project S a sequel to the classic franchise Snatcher?
Suda: I am sorry, but I can't make any comments on this either.

Intriguing, he never denies it being Snatcher, if I was in his situation, and it was not Snatcher, I would just tell them it isn't to eliminate any hype surrounding it. I wonder what his expression was when he was asked whether it was Snatcher or not. Knowing Suda being the fanboy of Snatcher himself, he may have grinned a little, unfortunately, IGN never noted it down.

I don't know. I get the impression that Suda doesn't really enjoy many interviews with the American press, but he wants to promote his games, and he wants to send out a positive message. I've read a few British interviews with him, though. He seems to like those more, as he's a fan of British music and culture. He always gives them a little tour around the Grasshopper Manufacture building.
Maybe he would have said something to a British magazine? I've got to get writing to Edge!

Groovy.
That would be a great idea! I say do it!

I suggested it as a joke, but I'm considering it, now. I don't know if Edge is the best choice to ask, though. They only interviewed Suda around 2 or 3 months ago, and they interviewed Kojima this month (its a huge 12 page thing. I can't find the new issue up here, though). They're also a little, well, arrogant. I doubt they'd take suggestions for interview questions from readers.

Just ask Marc to ask them; he could say he is a membe rof Junker HQ; the team making the Policenauts translation, they'll certainly fall over backwards about that and listen to you both then, definitely!

Actually, I just got the new issue of Edge today, and they ask Kojima about Project S (the interview with Kojima is actually only three pages long). Quite interesting. Here's the quote-
EDGE wrote:EDGE- In a Hidechan discussion with Grasshopper's Suda 51 you expressed interest in making a text-based game. Do you still want to?
Hideo Kojima- I'd really like to but I know it wouldn't sell. You just can't do that today.
A hell of a lot to speculate on, there. Here's the likely options I see-
A) Project 'S' won't be text-based.
B) Kojima is worried about it, but will still make it if there's interest.
C) Kojima is waiting for the market to change before he makes it.
D) Project 'S' has been cancelled.
I think A is the most likely, and the option that most fans will be happy with.
He admits that he wanted it to be text-based though. That means that Project 'S' would have been a spiritual sequel to Snatcher/Policenauts, even if it's not a direct continuation of Snatcher.
I'm even more interested, now.
I'm planning to put the full interview on the forums, tomorrow. I'll probably have to transcribe it, though.

The news is much appreciated. Even an "in-the-spirit-of-Snatcher" adventure game from Kojima would be amazing, whether or not its related to his older games.

Yeah, it may be another 'spiritual sequel' like Policenauts. That, my friends, would be awesome! I certainly do hope that it is not cancelled, I do hope Kojima isn't so wrapped up with the money that he doesn't make it now, since that would be a great shame!

I doubt it. Suda was keeping quiet about Project 'S' to IGN very recently. I think he'd be happy to say they couldn't do it, if it was cancelled.

It would've been better if Edge had mentioned Project S by name. I find the question and response ambiguous.
Someone at TUS has provided photos.

Judging by what has been said of Project "S" so far (An adventure game for the Wii, and a collaborative effort between Hideo Kojima and Goichi Suda), I think they could have only have been refering to Project S.
I hope that came out alright. I've been at the Whiskey, tonight.

Bump!
Suda's just said he's working on three Wii games (including No More Heroes) and two Silver Case games for the DS. Three is a pretty big number in development terms, especially for such a small studio. Surely one of them is Project 'S'?

I wasnt to thrilled about the No More Heros footage...seemed like a very repedative game. I dont really care for hack and slashes anymore, unless its completely story driven...

Read the last two paragraphs of my first post in the "Clover becomes SEEDS" topic to see why I'm so surprised.
I'm sure I have a mind-link with Suda.

Hahaha, it's all coming together now o.o
But really, i'm excited for this. Hopefully some more "No More Heroes" footage will be shown. The recent GDC stuff looks great.
This event is a huge fangasim for me.....Suda, Kojima, Mikami, Ueda.....so awesome it hurts.

I'm pretty sure Snake Vs. Zombie is just a name for the conference, rather than the name for Project S, so I don't think it will be directly connected to MetalGear (although some minor references wouldn't go amiss). I think it will just be a reference to what the directors are famous for (TTS' collaboration had a similar nicknaming system). Suda seems more famous for psychedelic survival horror games than zombies, so I think it's a safe bet that Mikami (the designer of the world's most famous zombie based game) and Kojima are doing something together that involves Grasshopper Manufacture. If this is a game, I think it's a safe bet that it's Project 'S'.
I think it might be a long month for me.

I got this from a new interview on Kotaku-
Kotaku wrote:...Something new, eh? Like your long, and oft-rumoured collaboration with Suda? "The collaboration with Suda is a little different", Kojima says. "It's something I've been thinking about for about 10 years now, but unfortunately can't concentrate on right now because we're so busy with MGS4".
10 years? In 1997, Kojima would have been working on MGS. It's likely that he may have been considering bringing back other games too, so the theory still stands quite strong. I'm getting quite interested in the idea of it being a continuation of the "spiritual series", though (Snatcher then Policenauts the Project "S").
Good to know it hasn't been scrapped.

Heh. Imagine if it was Snatcher or Policenauts! That would be awesome. Regardless if it is or not, still makes no difference; if the guy has thought about it for ten years, then it will be a masterpiece with such a long time to think about it.

Maybe we could all dig through old interviews from that time to see if we can find any likely candidates?

Well, it would be an idea that Goichi Suda, speciffically, would have had a lot of enthusiasm for, as the game was announced on HideChan Radio around a month after they first met. It would have been Suda's enthusiasm that convinced Kojima to go ahead and make Project 'S'.
The game was originally planned to be a text-based adventure, so that narrows things down (it won't be the zombie MMO or anything of that nature).
I really think that Project "S" will be a continuation of Snatcher (even if it's not based on the same game, I'm pretty much positive it will be based on ideas developed in Snatcher and Policenauts). It just makes far too much sense.

Well, if it is Snatcher, then what I would like is a free roaming sort of game; like in the same style as Shenmue, except in this big cyberpunk world (not having to be the same gameplay, it can still be text based, but you know what I mean; more free roaming). Now THAT would rock, if you ask me.
Besides, I'm still convinced that it's your fanboyism talking to you, no offence man,it's jsut, you know, as much I am hoping it is Snatcher or Policenauts, I can't see it somehow.
I can see it being a sorta 'sister' project, like what Policenauts was to Snatcher, you know? But not a direct sequel of either Policenauts or Snatcher. But you
do have me excited about it all regardless, damn you.

That's what I meant when I said a continuation of Snatcher that wasn't based around the Snatcher series. I'm a very big fan of both Kojima and Suda, so this is a dream come true for me. Thing is, whenever I
really hope for something in Project "S", a report comes out suggesting that it'll make it into the game.
I'm sure that I posted a comment on Junker HQ about two months before Project "S" was announced, saying that a Kojima/Suda continuation of Snatcher would have been my ideal game (I've tried quite desperately to find that post, before). It was something I thought of when I was playing killer7 for the first time, as I believe that the direct, linear gameplay (with occasional first-person shooting) would work extremely well in a new Snatcher game.
A more provable example of me hoping for something, before hints of it appearing in Project "S" appeared is my post about hoping Shinji Mikami gets involved (in the "Clover becomes SEEDS" topic), before the Grasshopper Manufacture press conference was announced, with both Hideo Kojima and Shinji Mikami appearing as special guests.
I'm not superstitious/wacko enough to believe that there was any kind of psychic connection, or that Kojima Productions are basing their ideas on my posts. It's just a series of strange coincidences, which makes my belief that Project "S" will have a connection to Snatcher all the more interesting.
EDIT- Reading through this topic makes me aware that I haven't posted all the clues that this may be related to Snatcher, in this topic yet.
- When Suda and Kojima first met, Suda said he was a big fan of Snatcher (a possible reason for the collaboration)
- In the HideChan/Kojima Productions Report, in which Project "S" was announced, it was implied that "S" has some relation to the title of the game (
Snatcher)
- Hideo Kojima told Edge that the game was originally planned to be a text-based adventure, but he's unsure if an idea like that will sell to today's game players
- Project "S" is supposed to be developed for the Wii. A console where it is very easy to change a standard NES-style controller into a pointing device (useful for switching between adventure mode and shooting mode)
- Kojima has said that this is an idea that he (not Suda) has had for around 10 years (when he might have been considering bringing back other series' than MetalGear)
- Goichi Suda has a history of developing many violent, story-driven games based around investigation
- Last year, Kojima Productions held an online survey to find out if fans wanted new versions of some of their old games (although neither Snatcher or Policenauts came top in the poll, it shows Kojima Productions are considering bringing back their old series')
I think there were more, or I doubt I would have been so damned sure about this, but I can't remember much of it.
