New magazine article

Imagine my surprise when during a trip to the UK I should discover a new magazine article about the Policenauts translation. I was staying at my cousin's house when his copy of gamesTM arrived this morning. When I got to the Retro section I discovered a news story about the project. I took a picture of it but am unable to upload it right now. Hopefully the magazine will hit shelves before I leave the country.

I knew they would be doing a review of the patched game when it came out, as one of their staff contacted us about it before, but it was nice to see a news article as well.

Wow!
That's very impressive.
Someone who is living in UK should buy the magazine and scan the page with this article, and post in this topic.

I am SO getting that copy of gameTM! My camera is fucked though; so I can't really upload the pics onto here. Awesome to hear I'll be able to read a review on the game though once it's patched. Marc, can I ask you something? Do you know what other magazines out there are writing a review on the game for the UK or is that it?

Awesome to hear though, great news.

You know Kojima knows about this, he's up on everything gaming-centered. :D

Yeah, i think Kojima Production already knows about this translation project because many big gaming sites have been informing about this project.

I'm just wondering what Kojima thinks about this fan-translation being made :)

That's generally from social ties, though. You'd be surprised at how unaware game developers are of the homebrew community. It was only last year that Yuji Naka found out about the Sonic 2 Beta leak. Sonic Team's discovery of the Sonic Crackers beta leak was even more recent.

Ja, we've (Junker HQ/PN Staff) assumed that the general Konami affiliation have been well informed since the project began (or possibly a year after the announcement of the information we surfaced 4-5 years back ect.) -but of course Kojima and Konami can't simply make a comment about the project (though that would be hilariously interesting to hear). Yet again though this could've also been a pseudo-philosophy of our paranoia before the main launch hahaaha.

I bought a copy for myself today at a newsagent. I'll be able to upload a scan when I get back home this weekend.

Apart from Retro Gamer and gamesTM, I know of one other UK mag and two US mags that have expressed interest in doing reviews/stories on the patched game when it's out. I don't know if I can say who yet, though, since it's still a work-in-progress and their emails come with a footer that tells you not to say anything about what's in it. :/

I read this the other day, and found that the magazine used the word 'masterpiece'. Now, I know the magazine well, I read a lot of their articles from time to time, and certainly know that they are ALWAYS very laid back when it comes to describing games, so with using that word, they must be impressed by the game a lot. I expect great support off them, don't worry.

GamesTM are big fans of Kojima's early games (they often mention MG2:SS and Snatcher as classics). I often agree with their taste as well, so I buy the magazine whenever I can. They've even gone so far as to say "If you don't like killer7, I don't think you should be reading this magazine".

I'd like to point out that I quit my job at Retro Gamer (I'm now a sub-editor for a non-games-based publisher), so I won't be able to write any reviews for Retro Gamer. I don't know what their plans are for it, but you'd have to get back in contact with the editor for such things.

Sorry chaps.

Still, congrats on making this happen. You've made gaming history. :)

I'm sure they'd happily tell the people behind the patch about their plans, especially if you offered to do an exclusive interview or something similar.

Nice to hear from you again, John. Good luck with your new position! I guess we'll try to contact RG closer to the patch's release.
