Details is still unclear and Konami haven't officially explained what this is all about. My guess? Special 20th Anniversary editions of each game packed with some cool stuff. And then there is the Collection box which contains each MGS so far with some additional extras.
Guess we will know more soon enough.

I'd be surprised if these got a western release to be honest. Pity they're only released when I come back from Japan, though. I might have bought the collection if it looked interesting (I've only got the "special edition" versions of the Japanese games).

Yeah, I don't know if I can see them bringing these out in the West. Companies do this sort of thing all the time in Japan. My guess is it's going to be the same games with special box art.

Possibly a little bonus item like a small art book or a figurine as well, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'll wait for photos and prices before I judge whether or not it's worth getting.

Me too, but it probably would'nt be worth it. When these kind of packs are released in Japan, they usally get something extra with it. Outside Japan, we only get games in one box, that's all.

Prices are on IGN, now.

IGN.com wrote:Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation, 1500 yen), Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty (PS2, 1800 yen), Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater (PS2, 2800 yen) and Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (PSP, 2800 yen). In addition to the individual releases, Konami will bundle all games together in the 6900 yen Metal Gear Solid Collection package.
6900 yen is around £34, so I'm quite interested in this.

They'd be crazy not to release the upgraded version of each game (Integral, Substance, Subsistence).

It would be cool to see a collection with MG1 and 2 for the DS. I dunno if they'd be able to fit MGS1 on a DS card with them though.

No, they wouldn't. The set's being aimed at people who are new to the series, not completists. If people like the games enough, they'll go out and buy the upgraded versions.

Not with all that audio and video, they wouldn't. They'd probably have to make a DS specific engine before MGS would run on it, so it would be more of a remake than a straight port.

Wow, 20 years.... I never even thought about how long it's been around.
I'm not that big on buying games that i already own. Unless it comes with extras that are worth it, like with the VR missions and such in Substance, and those excellent ports on MG1 and 2 in Subsistence. It's weird that it's the regular versions that they're giving out, and not Substance and Subsistence.
Would be cool if they did something special here in the west, considering that MGS is a bit bigger here than in Japan. But if they were to just release the old games with nothing new, i'll probably skip it.
Speaking of the old games, ever since i played Ghost Babel, i've always wanted portable remakes of MG 1 and 2 made in the same style as Ghost Babel. Imagine it on the DS. It would be awesome. I hope they make a new portable MGS game in that style someday.

While that was the case with MGS1, I think that's been changing since MGS2. The series has become overshadowed by others like GTA and Halo. If MGS4's high position in Japanese most wanted charts is anything to go by, it might actually become more popular there with this next installment (though I don't expect it to).

Are they still manufacturing Integral/Substance in Japan then?
I dunno, to me that's like if the new RE4 on Wii came out without all the Playstation 2 extras.

Is it already known if those re-releases will feature the japanese VA or the english VA? (Like it was the case with Integral and Substance.)

They're the original versions of the games, so Japanese VA.

Haha, no, I was only teasing you. I remember you talking before about playing the Japanese versions.

Stop confusing me!
I don't get it, what was your point?
Edit: I should mention that with...

...I didn't meant that I already own them, (After all, the Anniversary Collection isn't released yet.) I was just trying to express that I'm definitly going to buy them, so in that sense "they're already mine".

I leave Japan on the 11th of July! I'm going to miss all of this!

I'm praying they'll have the public event before I leave.

At least some of the events won't be until after the re-releases are out. They'll be holding autograph sessions for them around the country.

You haven't paied attention to how popular MGS4 is then. As of now, MGS4 is the most anticipated game right now. Yes, even more than Halo 3 & GTA4

As much as I love MGS, I highly doubt it's more anticipated than GTAIV or Halo 3. In Japan it is, but not in the West.

Well, MGS4 is like the biggest game for the PS3, no doubting that, it's the biggest PS3 exclusive title, by far.

Yeah, I know that, but it's still not as popular as those other two games. You think stores will open at midnight for MGS4 like they did for Halo 2? Will MGS4 score pre-orders in the millions like GTA does?
