I've been thinking about all those japanese video game commercials that Nintega uploaded to YouTube, and I've been wondering if there were ever any TV ads made in Japan for the PC88, MSX2 or PCE version of the game. Anybody know if there were?

I'm sure that there were indeed commercials for all those versions of Snatcher. And while we're on the subject, I wonder if there are any Japanese commercials for the two MSX Metal Gear games as well as all 4 versions of Policenauts.

BTW, Nintega is awesome. I love how he finds all those rare Japanese video game commercials, and then uploads them on youtube.

I know there were ads for MG1+2 in magazines, but I have no idea about TV. The MG2:SS ads included photos of a resin version of MetalGear D, that recently re-appeared at the MG 20th Anniversary event. I really want that model, oh so badly.

I saw the commercial for Saturn Policenauts. It's really weird. It gives you no sense of the game at all. It's just a guy on a rooftop overlooking a city. I think it also has almost no gameplay footage either. Someone posted it on their website a few years ago. I've been trying to find it lately, actually.

I recently heard on a French video-gaming site podcast that there was a strange TV ad for the Metal Gear 20th anniversary collection where you can see Kojima doing all sorts of things, like driving a sports car, then suddenly playing base-ball, ...
But I couldn't find it on Youtube. :(

Those were fro integral, maybe they re-transmitted those. They are on the Premium Package DVD from MGS2 if I recall correctly.

There was a torrent, like 2 years back, that was a shit load of Japanese gaming commercials- old and new. Some funny as hell ones (funny to western eyes anyway).

IDK (just can't recall) if any Snatcher ones were in it tho. Fucking thing was like 2 GB and compressed, had a lot. You could search for it now, but I bet its dead as fuck. Only had (from what I recall) a max of like 30 seeders at its peak.

Weird that the Internet would not have more who dig stuff like that. Or maybe b/c it was on one of those ass trackers that is now dead.

I remember one of the Policenauts commercials had a a guy in a space suit while the camera panned around him... there was only a couple of seconds of footage of the actual game at the very end. I can't seem to find any of the commercials anymore though...

Funnily enough, I seem to recall watching an advertisement for a Japanese game thinking 'what the hell' that matched the one you described. This was way back when I first got the internet, so most likely it was Policenauts' advert. That was eons ago now, though (back in 1999). So I'm guessing the commercials are hard to get ahold of.

I remember seeing the image in Snatcher from my Sonic The Comic magazine where you see the maggots crawling out of the skull of Benson when I was very young and subscribed to my magazine service. I honestly thought that was the cooling thing at the time and remember showing my friends who were also in awe. All of those years later...who would have thought I'd have played the game! I still have that issue as well somewhere in my loft, along with all my other ancient magazines.

That probably explains why I was so interested in the game when I was a kid. I can remember being familiar with Snatcher since the PAL version was announced, but I have trouble remembering why I first became eager to play it.

I remember that MGS2 ran slow as hell on the XBox for some reason.

TUS? I don't remember the acronym, care to refresh my memory?

Also, Is my signature too controversial? I don't think I'm in breach of any rules due to the fact that it's not ACTUALLY implying anything, simply taken completely out of context. :P
