Metal Gear Solid: Mobile?

I checked out a few screenshots of this, and was wondering what's it all about? From what I hear, it's supposedly canonical side-events that take place during MGS2's timeline, with the player once again in control of Solid Snake. I don't know anything more than that, but the speculations currently circulating are this game is either based on events that Snake experienced during the Plant chapter, or unrelated side-stories involving Snake and Otacon's days in Philanthropy, prior to what took place during the Plant chapter.

So first off, I'm wondering if this has yet to be released in Japan, and if not, when will it be released? Is there any chance of this making it to any other system besides cell phones (PSP, for instance)? Has anyone had a chance to play this and describe what it's like, or anything? I know cell phone-based games normally don't garner much attention, but this one actually looks pretty good. I would at least like to know more about it, and what it is I'll be missing since I don't own a cell phone.

Where did you find the screenshots? I haven't seen anything regarding this, except that it's going to be bundled with MGS phones. As for an American release, I wouldn't count on it.

It's been confirmed for release outside Japan. Not a lot of details are available right now, except that it'll make use of cameras in phones. For instance, you take photos of objects of certain colors to get past particular areas.

Really? I heard that Square Enix was trying to do that with Before Crisis, but I hadn't heard anything else, since Japan's mobile gaming community is far greater than that of America, making it a bit hard to see those games finding their way over here. We just need to get better cell phone technology.

There are a few screenshots on GameFAQs. I think it looks pretty impressive for a mobile phone (a slight step-up from MGS1, at least detail wise), and shows off the game as being your traditional top-down Metal Gear experience that we've all come to love. Hopefully it won't remain isolated to mobile though, and maybe will end up repackaged within a MGS4 Substance or something, like the mobile versions of MG1&2 were.

I hate mobile phone 'gaming'. It's really atrocious. I'm really hoping for a release with the MGS4 add on (Integral, Substance, Subsistence etc). If it is a canon title, why limit it to just a particular model of mobile phone? Really sucks that they're doing that.

Well, I suppose it has a bigger draw in Japan, where the Japanese do everything through their phones. Gaming through their mobiles is probably second-nature by now, especially considering the quality of their games far exceeds anything we're typically used to seein in the west.

I definitely wanna pick this up. Besides, I need a new cellphone so I'll probably look into the Sony Ericsson W535. It comes with MG Mobile pre-installed.

I have no need for a phone, but can I just buy it for the game?

Sure, why not?

I'm still unsure of whether or not you HAVE to do that though. Maybe it's available for download on your current phone?

I don't think it's exclusive to that model, but I don't think many other phones will be powerful enough to run it.

Good point. The graphics are really good for a phone.

Wait, wait, can anybody hear that?

KA-CHING!

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. It's a canon title, after all!

The big problem with cell phone games in the USA is that we've never been into that type of gaming, so all our phones suck. Japanese phones are made more for gaming so the controls usually work out better, but also they have about three times better graphics than most phones over here. I don't think we're ever going to get into phone games, because we want a bigger screen and most people can't afford a really nice phone (I know I can't). Same as everybody else here, I hope that it comes out with some special edition of MGS4.

That is an absolute disgrace.

If they knew it was Verizon-only before the holidays, I wish they would have said before I bought a new phone and switched carriers in December.

Ok, I didn't really felt like creating a new topic just for this (and I don't know if this is already known), but I was trying Metal Gear Acid Mobile in this site: http://www.glu.com/noram/pages/product. ... d#Emulator
Which makes me wonder, why aren't there already mobile phone emulators? Most of the games use Java or Flash, so I guess that wouldn't be too hard to emulate. Also, that site _already_ has an emulator, although with Trial limitations.
Wouldn't it be possible to rip the thing or something? That way we could experience those damned games that are only released in Japan (and even those released in other countries...).

There are. People first found out about MetalGear AC!D Mobile through a leaked emulated version of it, which was reviewed on the TUS forums. It was also said that Ryan Payton had an emulated version of MetalGear Mobile on his PC. Mobile Phone emulation is quite readily available, but the games are generally quite bad, so it's not much more than a curiosity.

^Well, I'd like to have that leaked version, please :x
Hm, there are some entertaining games actually. From what I tried of AC!D mobile, it was funny and the 3D version will probably be better. The games are supposed to be entertaining for a while, yes, like a curiosity, but you wouldn't expect to play a FF7 or MGS in a mobile phone.

I think the leaked version was released in the same week as the game, so it's probably the same as the final version. I'm not allowed to post links to this sort of thing anyway, but I think the information was available on the review of MGAM on the TUS message boards (which are down at the moment).

I believe that most mobile phone games are emulated in single executable files, and don't require a universal mobile phone emulator to run. I'm only basing this on the one or two I've downloaded in the past.

That was me, I even posted it up on The Snake Soup. Wise move if you ask me.

MGS Mobile is out today. Anyone picking it up?

I don't think I can buy it in Mexico... Can I? Does it run on the Nokia E90 (Symbian S60 3 FP 1)?

Edit: Seems only US can buy it... and it is Java based.... (So it will run, but Java doesn't use the 3D Accelerator ini the Phone, and is slower anyway, ir certainly won't use the whole screen either)
