Out of all the versions out there, what's everyone's favorite? I think I prefer the Sega CD version, but all the ones I've played are good.

You said it all.. though I love the MSX 2 and PC88 versions as well.... But I agree with your opinion PCE and Sega CD are the ones I love the most, very closely followed by PC88 and MSX2

The Sega CD version is my fave.

I've only played the Sega CD and MSX versions (via emulator, so I didn't really get the full experience) but I'd still have to lean toward the Sega CD version.

One question though, there's one scene that differs in each of the CD versions of the game, I was wondering if those scenes were intact in the MSX/PC-88 versions? (Those who have completed the game probably know which one I mean.) is that scene even *in* the PC-88/MSX version?

No, the original games are only 2 acts long

Oops... I forgot about that. :P But it sounds like you know the scene in question (I won't say any more)

I'm partial to the PC88 version, since it was the first version of the game I've managed to play through the end (and it had some features I've haven't seen in other versions). The PC Engine was great too and I appreciate the Sega CD version just for the stuff they added in the localization.

Wasn't too fond of the MSX version (due to the terrible loading times) and I've somehow successfully avoid the PS/Saturn versions so far.

What's wrong with the PS/Saturn versions? I imagine they'd be more or less identical to the Sega CD/PCE versions though with minor differences? (except for that pesky language thing, I mean...)

They are censored, music has been changed and graphics have been changed, just to mention the tip of the iceberg.

I've played the Saturn version. Honestly, the thing I hate most about that version of the game is the ugly (and I'm putting it lightly) border surrounding the images on screen. That metal link pattern is the most hideously awful thing to surround in such a beautiful game made up of even more beautiful images. Really, what the hell were they thinking??

Hmm... are you referring to Metal Gear's new chassis?

That would be it... however as stated earlier, since the MSX/PC-88 versions lack an Act 3 (did they even plan a 3rd act, or were they just going to leave it hanging?) they lacked the ending scene where MG gets retrofitted to whichever console you were playing Snatcher on.

Shame more developers aren't that clever.

EDIT: oh yeah, the edits. Wasn't the Sega CD version the only one with a code to restore at least some of the original content? (like the dog)

The code has not been proven to do a single thing. The game is graphicaly identical if you don't input it.

Ah, got me again... I haven't played it in ages so I'm only going on what I remember... (which apparently isn't much, lol)

Like the Outer Heaven scene? All the characters in the MSX version in that place are based off movie characters.

Eh? If I don't input it?? What happens if I do input it??

OK, I should rephrase that (it makes perfect sense in Spanish):

Either way the game is identical.
It doesn't change a thing.
The game is graphicaly identical if you input it.

Yeah, I figured that was what you meant. I was just making sure.

What did they add?? I haven't played that version, so I'm just wondering.

Well technically, they didn't add anything, since it's the original version and all.

Anyway, the PC88 version allowed you to use the CD player at Gillian's apartment and listen to a few of the game's tune. You can also adjust the difficulty setting of the Junker's Eyes machine . I don't think any of the other versions of Snatcher had this feature except the MSX version (although, I didn't play that version long enough to find out). Also, the Check the Home puzzle is executed a bit differently too (the clue actually meant pressing the home key to your keyboard when you use Gibson's computer).

There's also alot more details in backgrounds and other graphics (The Metaluna Bartender for example, had a way meaner face).

Yeah, I shouldn't have said it like that. I just meant what were the differences. But thanks for the info.

I can't really say much hear because I have only played the Sega CD version, but it seems to be the best to me at least, as I when i look at screenshots of it compared to the other versions, it sticks out to be better animated or something, closer to an anime which is probably more to what Kojima wanted, plus, it's in english and there are english speaking, so if i were to play an other version now, i will probably imagine Gillian and Metal Gear speaking.

I've only played the Mega CD (not Sega CD) and MSX2 versions, so I don't have all that much to choose from, but I really love the Mega CD version. The voice acting and CD sound really add a lot to the game. Playing it with a Justifier is pretty cool, too.

Are there many differences between the Mega CD and Sega CD versions, apart from that single screaming letter?

Mega CD's the European and Japanese name for the Sega CD. I don't think there's going to be any difference except for the packaging and the region of machine it's played on. (Of course, I may be wrong)
