Lack of Snatcher game on ebay

Is it just me, or is there an extreme lack of the Sega CD game of Snatcher on ebay. Maybe when I checked last summer it was just a coincidence, but there were a lot more before. Anyway, all they have on there is a MINT copy bidding for over 80 bucks, which is ridiculous, since it's abandonware anyway.

It usually goes over 80 anyway. And abandonware has nothing to do with prices. What you are buying is a legit copy that has either nostalgia, collecting or some other kind of value. Whether the price is right for you or is overpriced by the market, is a completely different matter.

Indeed, you can expect to shell out up to fifty pounds (roughly a hundred dollars) or so for a copy. That's roughly what I ended up with once the inevitable bidding war began.

It's annoying too, because I'm big on collecting rare videogames. Which means that I'll end up paying up for it no matter the cost. It's just like the collector's edition of Lunar 2 Complete, expensive, but wholly worth it.

"I can see your point there."
As a fellow collector of many things, and particularly of video games as well, I understand what you mean. Although I might consider myself "retired from the scene" since it's been some years I have not been heavily into it. Hi fi audio, vinyl and having most of the games I wanted have detracted form it.

Yeah, I know a guy who collected all of the rare games for the psx and he doesn't collect so much anymore. Particularly since the new games aren't really considered rare. Unfortunately, he hasn't played Snatcher or even heard of Policenauts, but if I buy the game, then I think I might lend it to him to play (he's a big anime fan and all, so I think he'd like it). I'm beginning to understand just how unknown Snatcher really is. I think if it hadn't been only on the Sega CD it would be completely different.

Hopefully the English patch might encourage new interest.

Haha, I got lucky. Two guys on two different sides of the country both posted simultaneously, one on amazon with just a disc for $30, and one on ebay with just a case and manual for $30.

So I made off with it all for $60 :P

Dang man, that IS friggin' lucky. I had a chance last summer to get it for around 70 on a buy it now, but I didn't log on for a while and I didn't end up getting it. Now I look at the prices and I cringe.

And you are not after the Mega CD version, that one used to be expensive (UK release)

I was under the impression that it was cheaper in Europe, since they have more people (and more copies). I looked up the price for Ico in the UK and it's WAY cheaper than the US version.

I got my Mega CD copy of the game around 3 or 4 years ago for around £35 (roughly $70), but that was with a user who didn't support Paypal and didn't provide photos, so barely anyone bid on it. Other copies were selling for more than double that at the time. It's probably got a little worse since then, but you don't see the game as much any more.

There was a report in GamesTM that the UK branch of Gamestation shops have recently disposed of most of their retro stock. They have a list of popular titles (Sonic, Final Fantasy, etc.) that they keep, but everything else gets destroyed. It's an awful idea, considering how few copies of games, like Snatcher, were made for Europe. They really ought to have donated them to charity shops. It's sad that someone involved in the industry would disrespect its history in such a way.

I still laugh every time that I think about how I got my copy of SNATCHER for $5 at a discount audio/video store.

Damn you! (and I mean that in the nicest way possible) I haven't seen a game store that even carried Sega CD games since around 1997. I wish I had known about the game sooner, because then I would have been looking for it.

87th-Did they really just throw out their old games?! That would be horrible! Charity would have been a good idea, or just have them in a bin outside the door for free. Heck man, anything but wasting them like that.

Apparently they've been putting them on fire. Admittedly, most of them were old sports games of no real value, but nearly every Saturn game that was in a Gamestation shop has been incinerated, or so I hear.

AGHHH!!! That's so lame! Even if they're only sports games, they are still games. And games were NEVER meant to be incinerated. It just seems so wasteful. I don't even know if we're allowed to burn games legally in the US, but if we are, then I've never heard of it happening.

It seems like everyone is getting good deals. I think I need to just wait until I get lucky. I really don't have the money lying around to pay 100+ for the game.
