Unfortunately due to the 2.40 update, my PS3 got bricked. All it is display the XMB wave and nothing more. I'm getting a replacement in a week but it will be a refurbished one, I'm not to sure about that. Has this happened to anyone else or anyone you know, because I'm the only one in my school who it has happened to

I was doing good on MGO too.

No, it didn't happen to me. I feel sorry about what happened man. Apparently you can keep your unit but loose all your save games (probably). I've read at the Playstation forums that you simply have to take out the SATA drive (doesn't void warranty or anything, it is in the manual) and plug it to your PC. You can try copying all that is in there, and then format it. After that, copy your stuff back and try. It has helped many. In case you can't copy, you'll loose all your data, but you can still format it and the PS3 will boot ok.
Best of luck. I did a backup though, I'd recommend anyone to do the same, since the PS3 file system is FAT32.

That's rough. I had no long-term problems after updating, though my PS3 had trouble with the HDMI connection. I turned the PS3 off, held the on button, and that reset to the SCART output. I switched back to HDMI from there, and I've had no problems since.
I think I'll make a full backup of my hard-drive as soon as I get a decent external drive.
