LittleBigPlanet - big or bust?

Perhaps the potential to become the "facebook of video games"?
I honestly have little to no interest in playing the game. Making levels and checking out other peoples levels I find boring. It seems pointless to play something that doesn't seem to have any sort of storyline to it that isn't a sports/fighting game. Then again, I'm not a very social person in the gaming sense. I haven't played online since Unreal Tournament on the first xbox. Even then I had a free 3 month account and never renewed it.
I'm thinking in the long run this'll be more of a cult following game than one that sent PS3's flying off the shelves. Bottom line - I don't think it'll live up to the hype and be as big as Sony is hoping it'll be.
But I could be wrong. The PS3 is by far my fav system (I have 3x more games for PS3 than I do Wii+360 combined) so don't think this is me bashing Sony at all.

I know a lot of people who are really excited about it. they say it will be awesome but I haven't read up on it much. I'm more of an FPS gamer, except the MGS and SOCOM series of course.

It will probably end up as a cult thingy, similar to Spore.
It's cute to look at and I admit its a fun design but I can honestly don't see loads of people who are usually into more action based games sit days behind this making levels and puzzles.
The biggest hype will be during the first couple of days, then it will die down.

Sound about right. What I really want is an RTS that lets you completely plan the assault of a given location and then have the choice of actually going into the battle and playing alongside either NPC's or Online Players to accomplish the mission that you orchestrated yourself. An RTS that has the option of becoming an FPS carrying our your own plans. That would be awesome.

It looks fun, but I think in the end its just gonna be a fancy looking Line Rider game.
I work at Gamestop so Ill just rent it for free and see how it is...cause I have no intentions of buying it.

looks like it could be a cute fun game, nothing more. I never expected it to be anything other than that.

It's just odd to me making my own levels.
It's like those stupid restaurants where you gotta grill your own food.
How about a book that's just gives you a list of characters and you have to write your own story.
I'll probably still give it a shot, but I won't be rushing out day 1 to buy it.

It may be worth a rental for me, but I will definitely not buy it, unless we are all wrong at it turns out to be incredibly awesome.

Is not like the game doesn't have already created levels, neither that you can't download other people's maps & content...

I'm with you. The game looks like a real snooze-fest to me.

Its a really fun game. I'm in the beta and it is awesome to make levels. The first one i made was part of Shadow Moses from MGS1.

I've been playing the beta all day and I really love it. I'm a big fan of 2D platformers and physics-based games, though, so it's no surprise. I don't think many will appreciate it as much as I have, though. I don't really want to get too into the level-editing at the moment, as it's surprisingly deep, and I've heard the beta levels will be incompatible with the final game. I'm not too eager to go through the same 25 tutorials again, either (though Stephen Fry does manage to make them fairly entertaining).

Huge reviews for the game so far.
But then again, I'm been ho-hum on games that've got 9+ and love games that's gotten 6-7.
I'll probably score it once there's a ton of cheaper used ones on ebay.

Now that I've looked into it a bit more, it looks like a pleasant waste of time.

That's kinda annoying. I'm not Muslim though, so I'm not sure exactly how much of a slap in the face having that song in there would be.

K the game is out let me vent.
1st off. Whats the most important thing about a game, controls working correct? LBp fuck'd that one right up. I've been play'n it for 4 days now, and thiers still invisble walls you'll hit while mid air jump'n where thier is a big ass gap. I'll be going down cogs and boom i can't move anymore to the left while im falling and i'll die.
The 2 plain system it has is garbage. You'll try and jump back and certian times it won't let you. Then othe rtimes you'll be trying ot move a box or something and you won't be able to get back into the right plain.
2. The game play is sooooooooo fuck'n slow. I don't no who thought runnin it at a uber low rate would be fun. Unless your on a mine cart or something moving it's slow as hell.
3. ONline is STILL down. 4 days i've had it and it still won't work I don't give a shit that it got pushed back, they should have had the online up on launch day, not 4 days after and still nothing! I called sonys customer service line on it, and the lady said give them up a to week to get it going. Bullshit!
4. Level design in general is at a minimum. Yes it looks great. But the levels are 100 percent built around the fact you want to get the little bubbles to make your own levels. That'd be fine if the levels they made were atleast funcutional but like i allready said, with invisble walls in mid space that's not good programing. Great idea having a closed beta, so no one like me could see it's a shitty platformer and spend my money on super paper mario *shoulda done that in the first place*
5. The game is a lazy attempt by sony to get YOU to build the levels. Like i said in point 4 they seroiusly put zero effort into the 1 player mode, basically thier hope'n that people will be so inticed by building your own and sharing that they hope no one will call them on thier bullshit.
6. No title screen. THAt bothers me quite a bit. Thiers no separte files, so no matter what your playin that 1 file you made. I understand that thiers absoutly zero story But that still bothers me.
7. I can't get a fuck'n refund on it.
Anyone want to buy little big planet with a speical promo press kit sony gave to retailers? The press kit is cool it's a booklet you open up to reveal cards that tell you abou the game on one side. Then the other side if you put the card together make a gaint poster that's really cool look'n. The artwork in the booklet is pretty damn cool.
Offer me something in a pm as im pretty pissed about this and would rather just trade it in for mario. hahah peace.

So its pretty much an overhyped title?
Nothing new anymore these days, look at Fallout, us Fallout fans were already worried it would be a poor Fallout game; we were not proved wrong.

Actually, I'm quite pleased by Fallout 3. It may not be the best out of the three but its really awesome.

Did you start the series with Fallout 1 not long after it was released, and then sticked with the series through Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, and then watched Van Buren being canceled in favor of a bad console game?
Fallout 3 fails as a RPG, as a FPS and as a Fallout game.
Three strikes, you're out Bethesda.

I have not played any other fallout games, maybe that is why I like it. I did play oblivion if that makes any difference. But I still think you're being too hard on it. Fallout 3 is still an everlastingly awesome game no matter how it compares to its predecessors. I get your point though and I respect it.

It scored a 100/100 on Gamespy, which is stupid, because a 100/100 would mean that it is the perfect game. I think there are many people hardcore fans who would disagree with them about that statement. I haven't gotten to play the game yet, but, from what I gather, it's a very immersive experience. I barely played Fallout, but this one seems completely different from the original.

It is like youtube in a video game. My girlfriend is very much into it, and I can see why it has a huge appeal to the mainstream and to any gamer that likes references. Playing stages made by fellow gamers with homage to other stuff you love is great.
It also has the same lasting appeal and general quality problems as any user generated content site out there.
The main game is simple, but entertaining. Controls would be my only gripe, but yo ucan master them with a little time.
We'll see how well it ages in general. of course we'll see more and more complicated user generated content as time passes, and I think that is the thing that will endure time.
