Re: OFFICIAL: Metal Gear Solid Merchandise FAQ
Man I have none of these sources in my door room (glass, hard floor, etc). My room is small enough as it is, and being an amature bodybuilder doesn't help much. I can pretty much touch both walls with my arms spread apart. I may try that book idea, but I have nothing relatively hard to lay the posters over.

Re: OFFICIAL: Metal Gear Solid Merchandise FAQ
So far, I have my college text books spaced out over the posters holding them down. One has been on for over 24hr. On occasion I flip it over and do it again. But it still doesn't want to straighten out fully. I think I will buy frames tomorrow for them.

Go to Michaels. They're up here in Canada but I think they're in the US as well. Check Michaels.com for locations. Almost all my frames are Trendsetter poster frames and cost about $20-30 each.

One poster's measurements are 51.5cm (20.3in) x 72.8cm (28.7in). What approx. size should I get for this?

Re: OFFICIAL: Metal Gear Solid Merchandise FAQ
These japanese size suck balls. You can't get 20x30 which would be ideal, nor can you get 22x28. These are 2 VERY common sizes.Screaming Mantis wrote:One poster's measurements are 51.5cm (20.3in) x 72.8cm (28.7in). What approx. size should I get for this?
22x30 does not exist, you'd have to get it custom made. $$$$$
Your best bet is 24x30 (hard to find) and easiest is 24x36 and you can have a black border around it. 24x36 you'd be able to score for under $30, and the only real headache is centering the poster, but you get used to it after a while.

Re: OFFICIAL: Metal Gear Solid Merchandise FAQ
its not just japan, its just the standard metric ISO standard sizes.
B2 is the common video game poster from japan, ill be getting custom frames sometime, but yah, getting really expensive.. my dad used to make his own frames, so maybe ill ask him about how to do this myself. it just requires buying the frame and brackets for assembly, then off to a hardware store for some glass, and some matboard to do the matwork if needed.

Re: OFFICIAL: Metal Gear Solid Merchandise FAQ
Michaels has a custom framing department, but it's pretty expensive. In the hundreds.Screaming Mantis wrote:Where would you go for custom frames?
Doing it yourself is way cheaper, as long as you have all the neccesssary tools. I find however it looks better to use a bigger frame and give it sort of a "matted" look.
Here's one of mine in a larger frame:
And a similiar poster in one that fits perfect in the frame:
Although it doesn't look it in the pictures, I think in person the black border looks better. At the very least it doesn't look like odd and saved me quite a bit of money.

Post some pics mate, I'd love to see them!Screaming Mantis wrote:Cool, thanks. Just got the posters mounted. They look beautiful.
Violent, you're an inspiration mate, I love those framed posters. I wanna get my 'coming soon' one in a frame with a border like your ninja one, but it's massive isn't it!violentsnake wrote:I find however it looks better to use a bigger frame and give it sort of a "matted" look.
I love those frames!
Does anyone use U.V. protective glass/plexi-glass for their framed posters? That's my major concern now to be honest, will the posters be protected from fading? I hear plexi-glass is the most expensive but it has less risk of smashing into shards and damaging the poster. Also the added U.V. protection would be awesome. However we're talking MEGA bucks!!!
What do you guys use/suggest? I've got some stunning posters I wanna take good care of and can't wait to display!

Re: OFFICIAL: Metal Gear Solid Merchandise FAQ
jon, i recommend putting expensive posters where there is no sunlight or super bright yellow lights.
other than that, retaining poster condition even with uv protection plastic / plexi is kinda shaky.

shaky = not to positive. (like.... walking through that field of land minds is kind of shaky)
uv coated plexi kinda fades when exposed to extended amount of sunlight.

I agree.TSi wrote:jon, i recommend putting expensive posters where there is no sunlight or super bright yellow lights.

Instead of trying to protect it from sunlight, I'd take it right out of the sunlight in general.
You never know how accurate manufacturer claims are of UV protection, and it may only last for a certain amount of time.

Re: OFFICIAL: Metal Gear Solid Merchandise FAQ
Fair enough, at least that way I can save some cash so it's good thing. I'm still concerned about fade though. Doesn't artificial light affect things too though? I'm sure I heard somewhere that it does.violentsnake wrote:I agree.TSi wrote:jon, i recommend putting expensive posters where there is no sunlight or super bright yellow lights.

Re: OFFICIAL: Metal Gear Solid Merchandise FAQ
jon: it does, dont put it under bright intense yellow light.
fluorescent light tubes or those energy saving lightbulbs would be a lot better than the intense yellow ones.
also, shining light directly at it will of course increase speed of fade. but i mean, there are other things to worry about...
if you put it in a too dry place, the paper will turn yellow and fade
if you put it in a too wet place, moisture will get onto the poster and it will be wrinkled
and so on...
the things about these are... they are all long term effects so they wont show up relatively fast, but maybe 5, 10... 20... or even 50 years later, it will show.

Loving those Mantis, they look sweet in the frames you bought too! I can't wait to get mine, they're still with customs unfortunately! lol.
EDIT: It's a pity we can't show both sides of that MGS2 poster though isn't it!
P.S. thanks for your advice TSi, I'll take those points on board!
