I've noticed that many of his games were rereleased under several collections, such as Konami the Best, PsOne Books, Playstation 2 the Best, Konami Dendou Selection, and the essential Metal Gear Solid collection. Exactly how are those rereleases different from the originals?

Just the packaging. The code on the discs are identical from one release to the next (though, I understand some of the PSone Books games have the new Konami logo at the start of the game instead of the old Plato's Cavern style). Only the most hardcore of collectors would attempt to get every re-release of a Hideo Kojima game.

The only re-release that I was tempted to get was the essential collection. Even then, the only reason that I wanted it was because I thought that the box art was cool. I never ended up buying it, and I just ended up buying subsistence instead.
