Re: Snatcher? What is it about?
There is many versions of the.
It was first released for PC88 and MSX computer systems in year '87 and in 90's for several other platforms. The only version which was released outside Japan is for SEGA CD. SEGA CD is actually add-on for Sega Genesis aka. Sega Megadrive II, but since the add-on kinda flopped and there isn't much games sold, this Snatcher version is little bit rare and expensive now a days. Anyway, if you are interested to play the game then SEGA CD version is the game i suggest you to find (Or download the Game ISO and Gens emulator somewhere =D )

88' actually. Hence my screename.
BTW, folks, I must mention that this November 26th will be the game's 20th anniversary. The game was originally released on that date 20 years ago on the NEC PC-8801.

Re: Snatcher? What is it about?
It is very unlikely. There has been nothing released since 1998 (2000 if you stretch it). If there is something it would be Project-S related, but we'll know about that during TGS if there is anything to know at all.
From the mathematical perspective, consciousness might be regarded as a second derivative of sensation.

Re: Snatcher? What is it about?
I've been wondering if they'd save the first Project 'S' stuff for the 20th Anniversary. After MGS4 was delayed, I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to wait until TGS to show something, since it's so close to the 20th Anniversary (and judging by the fuss that Kojima Productions showed over the 20th MetalGear Anniversary and the 10th MGS Anniversary, I think they like celebrating their games' birthdays).

Re: Snatcher? What is it about?
It began production because Goichi Suda was such a big fan of Snatcher, and started talking to Kojima about ways to expand the franchise (who never had serious plans to make a follow up, after adding Act 3 in later versions of the game). I personally have full confidence that whatever comes of this will be true to the original's plot and atmosphere.snatchernaut wrote:i think that its a very long overdue project.

Re: Snatcher? What is it about?
Would it actually stay true to the first game's extreme focus on story and atmosphere (to the point where there is no gameplay, essentially) though? I figure Kojima has expectations on him as to sales after the whole MGS-thing and unless they do it on handhelds (which would allow it to do well in Japan, where console gaming seems pretty dead; first-party titles for the Wii being the exception) the only way they're going to reach million sales given the game's theme is by appealing to the Xbox action audience, which is not a direction I'd think most of us would be happy with.87th wrote:It began production because Goichi Suda was such a big fan of Snatcher, and started talking to Kojima about ways to expand the franchise (who never had serious plans to make a follow up, after adding Act 3 in later versions of the game). Re: Snatcher? What is it about?
Huh? I don't mean to be rude, but what are you basing this on? I don't think a text-based adventure will come out of Project S (possibly if they do something on the DS, but almost certainly not on a home console), but does that mean they can't do a cyberpunk game based on Snatcher with the same kind of writing, music, plot concepts and stylised look? I don't think so.epitaph wrote: Would it actually stay true to the first game's extreme focus on story and atmosphere (to the point where there is no gameplay, essentially) though? Console gaming is doing fine in Japan, too. The Wii is outselling the PS3 and 360 by far, but all the systems are getting good support. There's a whole bunch of really expensive Japanese RPGs and action games in production for PS3 and Xbox 360. I don't see why Kojima Productions wouldn't develop on either system, at the moment.
Saying this, Hideo Kojima was reported to have been talking to various FPS development studios this month. I don't think it has anything to do with Project 'S', but I expect he may be thinking of developing a gung-ho shooter.

I guess they could, but do you believe it would actually sell? Consider No More Heroes, which was also a stylized action game and which did okay but not that well (a common theme for more artistic games as of late) and absolutely tanked in Japan even though it was on the Wii which has done well overall.87th wrote:Huh? Granted, the PS3 (and 360) are receiving decent support, but even so the sales figures have been bad for both hardware as well as software and while Wii hardware is doing extremely well only Nintendo software actually makes it onto the top charts. Meanwhile, DS software (and to some extent, PSP) has been dominating; possibly not in terms of overall sales per title (which is not entirely surprising given the sheer amount of software available for those two platforms), but as a whole.Console gaming is doing fine in Japan, too. As for the bit about RPGs, I figure there's a reason for Dragon Quest IX being a DS game rather than a PS3 or Wii game and I feel that's all I need to say.

There is very little in common with No More Heroes and Snatcher. I don't think your analogy really stands up, to be honest.epitaph wrote: I guess they could, but do you believe it would actually sell? Well, I believe that the Wii and DS are outselling the PS3 and Xbox 360 in Japan due to the expanding gaming audience. I don't believe that the more traditional consoles are doing any worse than the PS2 or Xbox did 5 years ago. Suggesting that a new Snatcher game would be a FPS just because it would do better in the west if it was is being overly-cynical, in my opinion.epitaph wrote: Granted, the PS3 (and 360) are receiving decent support, but even so the sales figures have been bad for both hardware as well as software and while Wii hardware is doing extremely well only Nintendo software actually makes it onto the top charts. A choice that was considered hugely controversial by the series' fans. It's a standalone example, too. I expect it will sell far better on the DS than it would have on, let's say, the 360, but I think the 360 sales would have easily made enough money to make a decent profit.epitaph wrote: As for the bit about RPGs, I figure there's a reason for Dragon Quest IX being a DS game rather than a PS3 or Wii game and I feel that's all I need to say.

I feel we're getting a bit off-topic here, but I might as well have another go at this.
Fair enough.87th wrote: There is very little in common with No More Heroes and Snatcher. I don't think your analogy really stands up, to be honest.
Every failing business has historically considered itself in a different business than the one it's actually in, see DEC (believing itself to be in the mini computer industry rather than the computer industry), Ford/GM (believing itself to be in the business of making cars for americans/westerners rather than the transportation industry as a whole), traditional newspapers (believing themselves to be in the business of traditional newspapers rather than delivering news as a whole) etc.87th wrote:Well, I believe that the Wii and DS are outselling the PS3 and Xbox 360 in Japan due to the expanding gaming audience. Among the people who visit gaming news sites and post on forums, perhaps. As much as those people would like to think they matter, the fact that Square-Enix is going ahead with this is just proof they realize that those people aren't the core audience anymore - in fact, they haven't been for a long time.87th wrote:A choice that was considered hugely controversial by the series' fans. Re: Snatcher? What is it about?
Even with those points made, I don't think they're substantial enough to suggest that a Project 'S' game won't be made for the PS3 or 360 without dumbing-down. Maybe a smaller company would be put off, but Konami are in a position where they can quite happily take risks if they believe the end product will be of high-quality.
