Drama CD Metal Gear Solid fan-translation
Posted: Wed Dec 29, 2004 11:58 am
Since, I'm on my Holiday break at the moment, I've decided to take the opportunity to translate the stories featured in the Metal Gear Solid Drama CD. I didn't want to do this originally, since transcribing the dialogue from the CD and then translating all that would take too much work. Thankfully, I managed to sumble into a Japanese website which contained transcripts from both discs, making my life a helluva easier. You can check the site at the following URL:
http://www.geocities.jp/mobil_1s/
Anyway, they're arranged quite differently on that site than they are on the actual discs (I imagine that's how they were originally aired on the radio before they were compiled on CD). In the Meryl episode, Act 1 & 2 should be Act 1, Act 3 is Act 2 and Act 4-5 is Act 3. I've arranged exactly as they appeared on the CDs to avoid confusion. Feel free to make any corrections neccesary.
Metal Gear Solid Drama CD (Vol. 1)
Mission 1: Meryl
Act 1
Scene 1: Recon Plane Interior
A new type of aircraft is flying over the dark nightsky.
Captain:
"This is reconnaissance plane Angel-One. Air command, do you copy?
We're presently flying over sector 3 of the Basra Republic airspace.
We found nothing suspicious during our night patrol. Returning to base!"
Controller:
"Acknowledge! Commence flying over hostile airspace. Use the Beltaicor route."
Captain:
"Roger, over!"
"Did you hear that? Set the rear system to Beltaicor."
Co-pilot:
"Yeah-yeah, I know. What's the deal with these night recons?
Isn't this a ceasefire-zone anyway? Why did we even bring that gung-ho freak with us?"
Captain:
"Be quiet. You will piss our guest."
The door to the cockpit swings.
Captain:
"Ah, we were just talking about you, Meryl."
Meryl:
"I overheard everything. What's this about not needing me? "
Co-Pilot:
"S-sorry!"
Captain:
"I told you so."
Meryl:
"It's alright, I'm bored anyway. What's my orders?"
The sound of a lock-on warning is heard.
Meryl:
"What the...?"
Captain:
"It's the radar signal! Incoming targeted!"
Meryl:
"It seems that their anti-aircraft radar has been set to not recognize us. They're violating UN resolution."
Captain:
"We're the armistice patrol unit sent by the UN Peacekeeping force.
Your actions are a clear violation of UN resolution."
The warning sound of a missile discharge is heard.
Co-Pilot:
"Those fools are affirming their missile discharge!? It's coming!!"
Meryl:
"You got to be kidding."
Captain:
"Switching to manual operation. Meryl, return to your seat, quickly!"
Meryl:
"Affirmitive."
Captain:
"What's its course?"
Co-pilot:
"Incoming at Six o'clock. Preparing to launch decoy."
Captain:
"Decoy launched. Rotating rapidly to the right."
Co-Pilot:
"We avoided it! There's a second one coming."
Captain:
"Persistent bastards. We've sent our decoy, what should we do now?"
Co-Pilot:
"It's no use, it's approaching us."
Captain:
"Those assholes."
The captain quickly grabs the transceiver in his hands.
Captain:
"Mayday! Mayday! This is Angel-One, we're being targeted by enemy missiles..."
The recon aircraft is strucked by the missile.
Captain:
"Arggh!"
Scene 2: Beginning rescue operation.
Campbell:
"As I've explained, your mission objective is to retrieve the luggage from the
crashed fuselage and then return home to safety. We're receiving electric signals
from the nanomachines implanted into Meryl and others. Don't worry, they're safe."
Snake:
"Aren't they inside the enemy's sphere of influence."
Campbell:
"Correct. That's why you were summoned."
Snake:
"If you have the time, can you explain how I'm going to do this?
That fuselage was installed with state-of-the-art electronic warfare equipment and
yet it got so easily taken out by an anti-aircraft missile."
Campbell:
"The electronic equipment is insured. You will be inside a cargo heli,
which is loaded with a high-speed attack buggy in case that's too conspicious.
Snake:
"And when it's time to leave?"
Campbell:
"I'll be waiting at the end of the ceasefire line with provisions in case of an unlikely event."
Snake:
"Sounds way too easy."
Snake takes out his zippo lighter and ignites a cigarette.
Campbell:
"Snake, smoking is prohibited inside the plane."
Snake:
"Huh"
Inhales cigarette.
"This ain't hard stuff Colonel, by any chance do I have backup for this mission?"
Campbell:
"This mission is a search and rescue operation by the United Nation, so don't think about it?
A partner has already been assigned to go with you."
Snake:
"Surely he must have the skills."
Campbell:
"The guy is a member of Delta Force, the army's strongest counter-terrorism unit, they're every bit as good as FOXHOUND."
Snake:
"The army's strongest counter-terrorism unit? That guy?
Look at him! Not long ago, he was sitting on the floor messing with his guns. You mean that gun-geek?"
Campbell:
"That's right. I heard that he was disgusted by your collection of cigarette butts discovered by the crew."
Snake:
"I see. I have one last question."
Campbell:
"What is it?"
Snake:
"Why is Meryl there?"
Campbell:
"I thought you would never ask."
Snake:
"Colonel, tell me."
Campbell:
"I understand. Since our friendship has stopped being a secret.
Meryl has changed...ever since she came back after the Shadow Moses island incident."
Snake:
"Meryl's..."
Campbell:
"That's right. She started volunteering for dangerous missions.
Strictly confidential operations in which the chances for a safe return are no less than 10%."
Snake:
"Did she ever gave you a reason?"
Campbell:
"I must admit I always felt your shadow on her."
Snake:
"Shadow?"
Campbell:
"Meryl is pursuing you, trying to approach you.
I became fearful of whatever harm might come to the child I raised and cared for,
so I transferred her to the UN forces due to the fewer risks involved."
Snake:
"You don't say. So now you're reinstated as an observer for the UN."
Huh. (*sigh)
"Is that the exact reason why I'm the most trusted man for this job."
Campbell:
"Are you angry?"
Snake:
"Huh-huh! Don't you worry as usual Colonel.
Meryl has soldier's blood flowing in her veins,
she won't die so easily.
Shouldn't you be the one to understand that the most?"
Campbell:
"Soldier's blood? Don't you mean..."
Snake:
"Let's end this chat, I'm gonna look for that geek."
Allen:
"25, 26, and 27. Perfect! I cannot load it to it's full capacity of 30 rounds
since the loading would become poor. The Soviet's AKM Assault Rifle. It moves
excellently even when it's covered in mud. It also prevents exposing an American
soldiers with it's gunshots when it's used by one."
Snake:
"Hey you. Aren't you that gun-maniac, Sgt. Allen Iishiba?
Allen:
"Hi, Snake! Did you finish your date with Campbell?"
Snake:
"Why you!"
Allen:
"What are you bringing with you? An AKM like me?"
Snake:
"I'm not so lucky, this is mine unfortunately."
Allen:
"A SOCOM pistol? The custom handgun for the special operations command.
And your assault rifle...?"
Snake:
"I don't have one."
Allen:
"Really?"
Snake:
"It's the only thing I need to take out enemies."
Campbell:
"Playtime is over! Both of you, get into the buggy, we're preparing launch preperations."
Allen:
"I'm coming, I'm coming."
Snake:
"Have your machine-gun ready! We'll be exposed to danger the moment we land."
Campbell (over intercom):
"Do you copy? We're secured at an altitude of 50 feet, now opening hatch."
Allen:
"Look, it's pitch-black outside! We need our infrared goggles."
Snake:
"Wheel-fastening equipment released.
Campbell:
"Prepare to land."
Snake:
"Incoming fire."
The sound of a lock-on warning is heard.
Allen:
"What the...?"
Campbell:
"You've been targeted by anti-aircraft missiles. Abort the rescue operation. Return now!"
Snake:
"Negative, Colonel! We're already outside!!"
Campbell:
"Retreat! That's an order! Hey, Respond! Snake! SNAKE!"
