I already have an idea of what most people will say but in your opinion who is the bad guy in the metal gear series as a whole?

I don't think things in MetalGear are so simple to assign simple "good guy/bad guy" roles to people. Even characters who are portrayed with an almost comic book supervillain-level of wickedness are usually revealed to be the victim of severe mental trauma or something.

Patriots=Bad
Snake=Good
Everyone Else=Gray Area

Even the Patriots are a grey area, since they had positive intentions. Snake's also killed many people, something that prevents him from being completely good. I think Sunny is possibly the only completely "good" character in the series.

One of the most compelling things about the Metal Gear games is that they really cannot be simplified to just "good guys and bad guys".

Motorman i really agree with ur point. I think that, that was the particular message they were trying to convey in snake eater with Boss' monologue about being a slave to ur time.

Everyone has their own intentions, their own opinions. They all have their own redeemable qualities to them, whether we can sympathise with them regardless of how evil they seem to be at face value is up to the player. Seriously, I can sympathise with them all for their own reasons. Sunny is just about the only fully "good" character and Volgin is practically the only fully "evil" character that I can think of.

Yea cuz i liked the ending of MGS when Liquid asked (rhetorically) why he continues to follow his mission, despite the fact that Campbell had been lying to him the entire time, saying that it was just obvious that he was "insane" and that he loved killing. But its really hard for me to tell what Ocelot was doing the entire series... I've played and beat them all but his intentions from Snake Eater to GOP kinda confused me at least until the end. As far as him being "good" or "evil"

Hey so in everyone's opinion...What MGS true ending the one with Otacon or the one with Meryl?

I used to automatically think Otacon because of Philanthropy and what not, but some of Meryl's dialogue in GOP makes me think otherwise.

Well, in Otacon's ending, Meryl dies, so that can't be the canonical ending (otherwise Snake'll have created a time paradox, we can't go changing the future like that! :lol: ). It's Meryl's ending that is the real ending, since Meryl doesn't die and Otacon gets picked up by the authorities sent in by Campbell.

It's definitely an interesting experience when you find yourself having sympathy for characters that where presumed 'evil' or 'bad guys'. It's very cool that Kojima kind of lets you understand their madness so to speak. We may not be able to tell who is truly good or evil, but I can sure as hell say everyone is a victim.

I do definately agree, and those are hard facts..her being alive and all. What i don't understand is why does Liquid tell u she's alive right before u fight each other on top of REX.

And yea thats an interesting point that Hideo makes us feel for everyone in some sort of fashion... especially Decoy Octopus LMAO he didn't even have a chance to explain himself! lol. But i don't really see Ocelot as a bad guy, despite the fact that he built metal gear, is that because of his personality?

Does anyone know
Volgin's intent? Like was he purely in it for the Legacy?

Oh yea one more thing, the connection between EVA and Ocelot being Eve and Adam...why? What was the apple? And what was the Garden? Who was "He?"

(Sorry I'm in anatomy and I'm kinda bored...)
