If you don't own this, buy it because it is the absolute tits.

That's all I wanted to say really.

Yeah, tits. [God they're great. Excuse me one moment.]

...

It's like a load of music from the original Metal Gear games all re-arranged and recorded with guitars and a trance-y [hate that word] feel. It's just great. Check out gamemusic.com or some similar site, I'm sure they had the original for sale at some point. Also known as "METAL GEAR SOLID SNAKE" soundtrack, as those are the games it covers.

Is the disc actually red, or is it a misleading title?

Personally, this site was enough for me (I'm not too bothered about artwork and all that- My copy of MG2:SS is unboxed!).
Oh, and since there's a lot of Policenauts and Snatcher fans here, I think I should mention the Black Disc, too.

YES! I absolutely love the Red Disc, the remixes of Frequency 140.85 and Level 3 Warning are awe inspiring. I really didn't like the Black Disc too much, it didn't have that many tracks from Snatcher that I enjoyed.

Ah yes! This was one of my first import soundtracks I've ever purchased. Definitely some of the best remixes I've ever heard. I only wished they would've included the Zanzibar Breeze remix from Konami All-Stars (like they did with the Premium Package CD) instead of assorted tracks from the Metal Gear 2 CD, but other than that, it's the perfect CD.

I never managed to find Kojima Black though, at least not for a reasonable.

Kojima Black is nice, but since I'm not a huge Snatcher nut I was only interested in the Policenauts tracks, and some I didn't like too much. I prefer the original of "ICY OFFENSE AND DEFENSE". But, I did like the outrageously Terminator-esque Snatcher theme at the start.

Plus, the Red Disc kicks ass just from a musical perspective. You have all these real guitars in there, then they slam in some early 90s acid style basslines and drums, but then on top of that, BAM you've got badass synth melodies. It is truly a great CD.

I wasn't too crazy about these tracks. I in fact did not like them at all. Some tracks were just too mellow, cheap (and when I say cheap, japanese school girl giggling beats that you wanna throw in the trash), with too much reverb.

For instance the re-arrangement of the theme of solid snake (MG2 theme), I think that it had no upbeat nor synchronous rhythm the original had on the MG1+2 compilation album(and there was no emotion at the song's highest emotional peak in relation to the place in the game's intro). It just sucked, cause neat little trancy noises can't beat what real effect you can pull with more emotion on a guitar in some elements, which leads to why I like the Low profile Arranger Gold's re-arranged version of the Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake theme than the one presented on the Kojima red disc (prepares to take heat).

To reprise, there are some really nice track arrangements, like "frequency 140.85," and "Theme of Tara." Cause otherwise almost every track sounds the same in beat, and they are just boring. It's like listening to a Reggae compilation, everything seems just the same. And the beat is just not fun to listen too as well, when ya hear it again and again.

But yeah, this album is just something that you just have to nod at. Same for the black disc. Now maybe I am just talking out of my ass though cause I own the snatcher midi 5, policenauts midi 3, and so on with the complete soundtracks, that I am just not crazy about these mixed (bad track selected)compilations. (for fuck sake how can you leave ana's theme out!? The best policenauts track in the game!)

Anyways, the Red disc would have been better if it was more upbeat and true to the original tracks(fidelity wise), but this cd just sounds like the horrible policenauts F/N soundtrack arrangements. And reason being, you need both bark, and bite to make something sound good. Well, in this calibur.....
