Since Sega CD times, the PS3 was the first console i bought, so even though i did play 1&2 on PC, i'm really looking forward to get a chance to play part 3. AND to play 1&2 with hoefully halfway decent controls...

They'd have to redo the textures before rescaling, surely...it's 2011, Snake needs eyes goddamnit!
MGS3's textures were a mess as some were alright, but lots were very detailed, which just looked grainy and sorta flickered when the camera wasn't close to them.

As long as MGS2 is Substance I'm a happy man.

I really want to see Peace Walker remade for the big screen, it's irritating playing with the control set up on Psp.

Yes, i feel the same way. More i'd like to see PW remake for PS3 than HD remakes of MGS 1-3.

That might be cool, but I do sometimes prefer the pixelated older versions of games. I always liked the Metal Gear Solid PSX better than the PC version. Maybe it's just for nostalgic reasons though. Still looking forward to buying this..and perhaps a PS3 as well

Well, it's MGS2, 3 and PW now. Quite a downer excluding the first one, though. The thought of PW on a big screen seems nice, but since the gameplay is definitely made for a portable console, i. e. to be played in small chunks, rather short levels etc., and i already played through it once on the PSP right after the release, i guess i won't be giving PW a whole playthrough on the PS3. I would still have preferred including the first MGS, like having the complete original trilogy in one package.
They're doing the same thing with Silent Hill, though. I can almost see Silent Hill 1 & MGS 1 being released on another compilation a while later, cashing in once more...

I just hope they restore the scenes that were removed from MGS2 due to 9/11 attacks.

Sorry, but not gonna happen. :)

Besides HD graphics, wide sreen and some remastered textures there are't going to be any major differences to the original releases.

Remastered textures? Way too optimistic

This is certainly good news, but I'd like to request a source? I don't know about much about the enhancements being made other than improved resolution, audio, and widescreen.

Sorry but i have to take it back.
It wasn't about remaking textures but only polishing some of the polygon surfaces.
It was on SnakeSoup i think...

It seems that either Kojima knows what we want or they're not being cheap, as the 2 MSX titles are coming with this as well!

The aspect ratio issue is blown out of proportion. That thing Ravi keeps pointing out is obviously the ass of one of the tengu soldiers, as can be seen in the previous shot of Snake and Raiden. If anyone got many pics of the scene in question, I could even point out which one it is.

It is not blown out of proportion, It is a very legitimate issue. It is about presenting it right, since the cut scenes were already in 16:9 letterbox.

Legitimate? Yes. Acting like something as simple as an enemy's rear end will ruin a cutscene when you could see it's sword even in the normal version ruins the entire scene when if it's in motion you most likely wouldn't even see it? Come on, that's silly.

The problem is not enemy's rear. The game has already been directed, the framing too. It could be just a symptom of something we all know is happening, they are not being supervised by the director. It is just asking for things to be done right.. we all know this is just being done to fund the development of Fox engine... alright I will help with that. I already own the games in a dozen versions.. I do have all the equipment to scale them as well as possible and with as little lag as it can be done... I'd like them in HD as well and that is fine.

But at least, pay some attention to the product, respect the game as it is; that's all I ask. It is like not caring about framing in a movie.. and if you don't care about that - in all honesty - why would you care about HD at all?

Point taken, but it's not like it changes anything vital. If so why is noone demanding we zoom in on the gameplay, as the game wasn't made for that much to be displayed at once? The game itself rendered so that black bars pull itself up over the cutscene, so the main question should be why the hell are those being rendered? We know there's stuff under it, as the game displays in real time. if you look at the pictures for the PC version that Gamespot has, the bars are even transparent for unknown reasons and it's nice to see whatever, if anything, was underneath them. (although otherwise the quality of those shots are shit, but that's not what I'm getting at.) The point I'm getting at is that there's honestly nothing to be lost and it's not absolutely game breaking.

And to answer your question about why I care about HD at all, I honestly don't. I just care about getting a working copy of MGS2, along with a new copy of 3, and enhanced PW. Enhanced visuals, an extended horizontal field of view, all games being in 60fps, and Peace Walker's controls not being awful aren't really anything to complain about.

Nobody demands that because:

1) Zooming wouldn't achieve the desired result, you would have to retain the game in 4:3 with pillar boxing (vertical bars on the sides).
2) The game was designed with 4:3 in mind, yes... but that was because it filled the screen that way. Gameplay is dynamic, as opposed to static cutscenes with aesthetics in mind.

Cinemas were designed with 16:9 in mind, hence the letter boxing. If you now have the 16:9 format as the default, it makes absolutely no sense to keep it "letter boxed" (the horizontal bars over cinemas) and at the same time widened instead of retaining the original aspect of 16:9 using the whole resolution. Doing it this way just shows a lack of dedication, since it demonstrates that the game simply is rendered "wider" with no concern or care, that is the point.

Indeed it is nothing game breaking, but it is "HD breaking". There are some of us that care about video formats, aesthetics and content. Kojima has always catered to that public, not caring about it is simply not caring about the core demographic. It would still sell, and it would still be filler though.

Right now you can buy MGS2 and MGS3 for less than that, and play them on your ps3 with decent results if you don't care about video quality. Not game breaking at all. And PW, well... I never cared about it, so I can't really give an opinion there.

You can't play PS2 games on PS3 >.>
Specifically newer model PS3s such as the Slim.
Which is what I have.

In any case, the only reason I can see for them not to correct this issue, since Kojima and Konami have been made aware of it, is laziness.

Correcting it would preserve the original games' field of view, while ensuring that owners of a 4:3 set aren't forced to experience a double letterbox picture.

This is a lose-lose situation.
