Famicom Detective Club Part II: The Girl in Back
Has anyone here played this hidden gem?
Famicom Detective Club Part II: The Girl in Back
Famicom Detective Club Part II: The Girl in Back is a Japanese adventure game originally made for the Famicom disk system but was later remade for the Super Famicom's Nintendo Power cartridge. The game is a prequel to the first game, Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir, however neither game was officially released in English. Fortunately there is a superb fan translation made for the SNES remake of part II; translated by non-other then Tomato, the translator for Mother 3.
I actually put off playing this game for about three years but in beginning of 2011 I finally began playing it, mainly because my brother kept badgering me about how great this game was. I finished it the same weak I started it and wow, what fantastic adventure game!
The games interface and flow is identical to something like Snatcher but completely different in overall feel and story. I don't want to talk much about the games story over fear of spoilers and me making it sound generic, so lets just leave it at it being a fabulously written and intricate mystery story.
I highly recommend this game to anyone who hasn't played it yet, especially if you consider yourself a fan of Japanese adventure games.

Good game here. Interestingly enough the folks who worked on the fantranslation are Demiforce and Tomato, two individuals whom we have to thank for bringing us the Original Earthbound Zero cart and the Mother 3 translation, respectively. It also uses the Earthbound font.
But yeah the game, it was really cool. Similar in gameplay feel as Snatcher/Policenauts.

um...you just restated everything I just said.
Except for the part about the font being the same, I didn't notice that when I played through it.

Damn, this forum is great. Wil play this once, but just like NES roms, is it possible to get this translated version on a SNES cart?
I really like to play on my tv and original NES instead on an emulator.

I would assume there's flash ROM cartridges out there.Kojima Hideo wrote:is it possible to get this translated version on a SNES cart?
I don't know too much about Super Famicom, by I've heard of such devices on other systems like Genesis or MSX.

If you own a Wii may I recommend softmodding it and playing it off Snes9x GX?
That's how I played it and if you have a classic controller it feel very authentic especially since the Wii has the ability to output in 240p.

If you need help softmodding it I can guide you through it.

I thought he was talking about the NES version. He would need FCE Ultra GX if he has a soft-modded Wii.
Speaking of Wii, I really need to get that shit fixed so I can FINALLY play Skyward Sword.

The NES version isn't translated and is inferior compared to the SNES remake.SnatcherMkII wrote:I thought he was talking about the NES version. He would need FCE Ultra GX if he has a soft-modded Wii.
So I thought it went without saying that he was talking about the SNES version.

Re: Famicom Detective Club Part II: The Girl in Back
My mistake, I ment 'Snes' instead of 'Nes'. For example, I own a English translated reproduction of 'Sweet Home' for the NES, is that also possible for SNES games? I don't own a SNES yet, but with my love for 2d games in mind, I know I someday will.Kojima Hideo wrote:Damn, this forum is great. I really like to play on my tv and original NES instead on an emulator.
And 'Best-name-ever', I'll skip Famicom Detective Club part 1 now.
Edit: Wow, an SNES PowerPak is rather expensive! It is an option for the future, altough I prefer custom made repro's.

Re: Famicom Detective Club Part II: The Girl in Back
There are no reproduction carts for FDCII.
It's a much better idea to either...
emulate it on a soft-modded Wii or emulate it on your PC.
Which is a much more practical/cost efficient way of playing it.

Part 1 has more aged graphics obviously and... I can't find a translation of it. I'm more interested in the supposed third one, but that was only playable on the Satellaview or something, so It'd be pretty hard to get it for obvious reason.

Re: Famicom Detective Club Part II: The Girl in Back
There's sadly no translation for the first/third game.AwesomeBrand wrote:Part 1 has more aged graphics obviously and... I can't find a translation of it. The third game was "BS Detective Club: Lost Memories in the Snow".
It was a Satellaview game that was episodically broadcasted in three parts over the course of February in 1997 (Japan only of course). The game actively streamed music and voice acting data from the broadcasting satellite during those times, meaning this game actually had voice acting! There is a ROM of this game floating around on the web, however the music and voice acting is missing (this data would have only been stored on the Satellite, so no surprise here). I also have no clue if all three episodes are contained within this ROM or not. It could be that the individual episodes are all contained in that ROM but aren't activated unless the broadcasting time and date are met on your Satellaview. I really don't know...
Sadly the fact still remains that this game, as of current, remains half lost...
