Portopia Serial Murder (1983)

Post by nickdaring »

I was watching a recent interview with Kojima and he talked about the four games that inspired him to create games himself one of which was a game called Portopia Serial Murder.

This game seems to be the main influence on Snatcher's creation.

You've even got a helper that acts as your assistant through the case like Metal Gear!

Has anybody here played it yet? Is it worth playing or is it too old and clunky to be fun?

The game looks like it was published by Enix, the same company that also published JESUS Kyofu no Bio-Monster.
(A game for the PC-88 with a shockingly similar interface to Snatcher.)
JESUS was released in 1987 as opposed to Snatcher release in 1988.

I'll have to check it out and let you know if its any good. :)
It appears that both this game and the Famicom port of JESUS have been fan-translated.

The fan-translation for Portopia Serial Murder I've heard it very good, though I've never attempted to play the game my self so I can't vouch for the quality of the game.
The fan-translation for JESUS on the other hand is really crappy, I almost wouldn't recommend bothering with it but I guess it's better then nothing.

I've always been meaning to fully play Portopia, but never gotten round to it.

JESUS is awesome (the game, and the guy as well :P ). The famicom version is currently being re-translated/hacked - it should be a lot better than the current patch when it comes out, so I'd say wait for that if you want to play it.

Okay all joking aside I have heard about that re-translation and would also recommend waiting for that to be finished, also the same guy who’s doing the JESUS re-translation is looking for a translator for the Famicom version of Metal Slader Glory which I'm also excited about

Oi hey that's cool. Although I'd prefer they translate the Super Famicom version but HEY, that one clip of Metal Slader glory looks cool, so I guess that's good enough for me! :P

There's a Super Famicom version? I thought it only came out on PC and Nes/Famicom?

If they're looking for a translator I don't think a translated version exists. :P
