The are as they say, "scenario" books. They contain the scripts for the games in Japanese. I assume they have some other bits and pieces in there, but that is what they are filled up with mostly. And they are very thick books indeed. And they are true Japanese books, they open the opposite way to Western books.

Was gonna make a thread about this, but too late.
Like Jon said, they're complete transcripts of the MGS games, including CODEC dialogue.

As far as I'm aware, the artbook is called "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater- The Countdown"
I think this is it-

"The Countdown" isn't really an artbook. According to the inside of The Countdown and the MGS3 Guide The Basics, an "Art of MGS3" is scheduled (orignally for March '05, and later just '05) so whether that'll be coming, I don't know. I'd hope so.
Possible Name Debate Solution!

I've just got an idea!
You know there's been a debate among us Metal Gear geeks on the identity of Naked Snake/Big Boss, on whether it's John or Jack or Fluffy McMuffin. What if the script contains the answer? I know the MGS2 script contained alot of excised plot details (such as what civil war Raiden participated), so maybe the MGS3 contains several details.
Thoughts?

It's a good idea for people who care, but it means scanning through 700+ pages of text. I'll have a quick look see through my copy, mainly at the Ocelot/Snake confrontation at the end. Maybe something will stick out.
EDIT: Just checked that Ocelot/Snake sequence, and it's just as in the game, he calls himself John, and there is no note to suggest any other names. If anyone wants to suggest other points where the issue might come up, I'll gladly check, but I don't fancy looking through the whole thing.

What about when he introduce himself to Paramedic (and uses the name John Doe)?

Isn't Jack just another name for John (like Jim is for James)?
And I'm sure John Doe's not his real name, that would be ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure Paramedic's is Jane Doe, though.

Well that's equally ridiculous. She said it in jest, didn't she?

It seemed so at first, but I'm sure she said she wasn't joking somewhere in the game.

Nope, nothing there. He says his name is John Doe, she says her name is Jane Doe, and there's a footnote explaining the meanings of the names. No other names mentioned. Also, he is in the script as "Jack" from the beginning, and it turns to "Snake" when he takes that codename upon landing.
