An overlooked reference to Snatcher in Snake Eater?

Post by TheBrotherOfLight »

There probably is a thread about references to Snatcher already, but I couldn’t find it even though I checked every page. And besides, I don’t think this reference is something you snap up at first glance.

Now, before I mention the actual reference, keep in mind that I haven’t played any version of Snatcher, so maybe the Internet provided false info. Bear with it.

Don’t get too exited though, it’s just a simple reference. During the Virtuous Mission, when you are to locate Sokolov, Snake almost “quotes” Gillian. It’s when you reach the abandoned factory. You guys of course know of the abandoned factory in Snatcher at the beginning? Gillian I think says “This is a real dump.” Snake, Big Boss that is, says when he have reached the abandoned factory that “This place is a dump.”

First time poster by the way, I like it here.

I very much doubt Kojima had Snatcher in mind when he wrote that line.

It's hardly an uncommon phrase, but I suppose it's the first building you reach while on a mission in both games, so it's not out of the question.

Well, I thought it was ironic that both places were abandoned factories and the main character described them very similar using almost the exact words. But as I said, I haven't played Snatcher. I got this idea when I read the Snatcher screenplay a member here had written.

Whiz-bang! You should play the game- you'll get a better feel for the game than by using my script, at least until I make the movie.

A scene that much closely resembles Gillian's first JUNKER mission is the scene in Policenauts when Jonathan and Ed goes to the AMM at night during Act 2 to find their informant. There's quite a few parallels there.

Also, I though the death of the DARPA Chief and his replacement with Octopus had plenty of Snatcher parallels with the death of Cunningham (such as Gillian and Snake finding the rotten body of the respective chief).
