Just a thought...it's hard to get interested in Snatcher before getting a rundown of it...but then again, I played the game under those circumstances...I had no idea what it was about when I started playing it...

The only preconceptions that I had were that Hideo Kojima created it, and it was a bit like Blade Runner. The experience was all the better for it.

It's more 'intrigued by' than 'interested in,' I suppose.

Heh first time I played Snatcher, Kojima was a complete nobody...sure, Metal Gear was a great game, but back then, programmers got more credit than writers. Therefore Hiroyushi Fukui was a name I remembered long time before anyone noticed Kojima :) When Metal Gear Solid became a hit I played all the MSX games again just to see if Kojima was actually credited ;)

When I bought Snatcher I knew that it was made by Kojima and there were a few MetalGear refrences in there. I pretty much bought it as a piece of MetalGear merchandise. It didn't take long before I realised it was much more than that.

Funny... when I bought Snatcher, I didn't know who Kojima wqas either. I knew and had played some Metal Gear, but in the NES. When I saw the references I was actually surprised and began backtracking them to know the creators. Kojima's name stuck in my mind. I waited for Policenauts a long time, since I knew it was from the same creator. I also expected MGS with a lot of curiosity, and played them both in Japanese, although neither of them complete. More like sampling. Didn't want to ruin the experience.

When I first found out about Snatcher (after watching Blade Runner and hearing things), I thought it was a darker and more violent game than it actually is. No harm done though.

When I had gotten a hold of Snatcher, I had bought my Sega CD (Model II) for a number of classic exclusives. It turned out to be a great experience, and I don't regret buying this machine. (Despite being one of Sega's many low moments.)
If anything, all newcomers need to know going into the game is that it's mostly a menu-based title. You'll be shooting and having fun with various options, but no one should expect a full-fledged Action game. However, players should know that the game is a great, campy adventure that feels like a cult classic 80's movie. Consider the game in its original context: A 1994 CD-based title with full voice acting, a complex story, and great graphics.

You're all set - Go buy the game.
