I recently got this Snatcher CD-ROMantic for PC-Engine Super CD-ROM. It's all complete, with game manual, comic manual, stickers, spin, and some kind of warranty. It's a good thing that this version has these extra details of this kind. And it came all in very good condition. I got it in eBay for just 30€.
Here are some pics:

I thought this version had more value. But it is a good adquisition at all, isn't it?

Yes, that is my favourite version in many ways. Presentation, being the Kojima release in CD and the extras. I am glad you got that, it is hard to resist buying more copies of it once you start.. so I recommend you refrain yourself.
=)

Yup. Presentation is wonderful, and I finally got the Snatcher manga at full color.
With this, I have Mega CD, Sega Saturn (not as good as the others, but with a excellent portrait) and PC-Engine CD versions of Snatcher. This game is really worthy of it.

30 euros??! Dude, you overpaid! I paid $7 for my copy of it. About 6 euros! Granted, it didn't come with the warranty card or the spine card, but it was otherwise complete, and the disc had nary a scratch! Ah well. We can't all be lucky.
And what the hell's a "spin"?

The spine card. I missed that "e".

That's ridiculously cheap. That isn't commonplace, is it? Surely that's something of a rare deal?

It probably was. I still think you overpaid, though. I wouldn't pay more than 20 dollars or euros for a copy myself, since they're significantly more common than the other versions.

Maybe it was overpaid, but doesn't matter, because I bought it to someone around here.
And at the other hand, I know of some people even paying up to 50€ for this version.

I got a sealed one of Yahoo Auctions for about $8.

Very nice.
If it's obtainable cheaply and relatively easily, is it worth seeking this version out if you don't understand Japanese for anything more than collection value?

I think so, yes. It's my favorite version of the game (if I couldn't understand Japanese, the Sega CD one would be my favorite). You shouldn't have too much trouble, except for when you have to input words like Queen and Benson, and you could always ask here for help for those. Heck, here they are now:
Queen クイーン
Benson ベンソン
The Napoleon answers you can find by searching for ナポレオン in Jordan.

Wow, thanks a lot!
That's great timing actually, I just managed to get my own copy on ebay. How's emulation for PCE Snatcher these days? I've read conflicting things suggesting it's not emulated and others suggesting it is. I have access to the XBOX port of HuGo which runs my friends copy of Rondo of Blood nicely, but other than that I don't have much experience with PCE emulation.

pay a few bucks to magicengine and your good to go, extremely user friendly system thats easy to use. Looks sweet too.

Indeed, Magic Engine works great... just played a lot of Act 1 right now without any trouble.. older versions hanged in the intro.. version 1.0 doesn't at all (you could skip it though).

Yame is also a good emulator. Apparently Magic Engine doesn't play Act 3.

I had to use YAME on it too. Anything after Magic Engine 1.00 doesn't run on my PC. Snatcher works on ME 0.9, though. Even if I skip the intro, I don't get too far. The game freezes after Cuningham's first speech. Apparently it forgets to switch to the synth soundtrack after finishing a CD/wave track, and it just waits and waits to eternity....

Have you tried it on the PSP emulator? I'm really surprised at its compatibility with Rondo of Blood.

The PSP emulator is a port of HuGo isn't it, like the Xbox PCE emulator? If it is, Rondo of Blood works spectacularly while Snatcher hangs after the Konami logo.
I don't have access to a Windows machine at the moment, just an iBook and Linux on my other computer (Yes, nerdy I know

) but MagicEngine runs fine under Wine and Yame has a Linux port, so I should be good to go when I get time to test it. Thanks for the recommendations all.
Out of interest, I know most of the CD music from the Mega CD version is there, but how is the midi or whatever it is? All of the same stuff? I say this as I particularly like the short track where Elijah is talking about his obsession with Jaimie.
