Metal Gear Solid 2 - Japanese Voiceover Data

I'll try to explain you this situation as I can.

I have Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance for PC (yeah, I don't have PS2). As you know, Xbox and PC versions of Substance never had a Japanese release. And not only that: Japanese MGS2 Substance for PS2 has English voiceover instead of Japanese, just the same as it was with MGS Integral for PSX in Japan.

So then, the common situation for a Substance user, it's playing it with the only possibility of English voiceover, as it doesnt exists any Substance version with Japanese voiceover (and Sons of Liberty, the only one which has it in its Japanese release, is a PS2 exclusive).

But I could find out something: the way the game contains the voiceover data. All voiced dialogues are inside a single file called "VOX.DAT" (almost 1 GB of file size), inside the game files. This happens with PC version, but also with PS2. That means that the file in both versions is exactly the same, giving you the possibility to replace one for another. With this, and having the "VOX.DAT" file of Japanese MGS2 Sons of Liberty (not Substance) for PS2, it exists the possibility of having a PC version (This is something also possible with PS2 and Xbox versions. I'm refering the PC one because it's the version I have) of the game, with Japanese voiceover, and subtitles in all languages supported by the western releases of the game. It's just a matter of replacing the "VOX.DAT" file, and there you have it.

The problem is... I can't find the Japanese release of MGS2 Sons of Liberty anywhere on the net. Noone appears to be sharing this one. Just NTSC-U or PAL versions of SOL and Substance for all platforms, but they are not useful. It is just needed this single and only "VOX.DAT" file of a Japanese copy of Sons of Liberty, to allow this possibility I'm talking about.

So, anyone around here could help to get this file? Exctracting it from the JAP PS2 Sons of Liberty, or knowing where it could be obtained this one on the net... that, or buying the game in a Asian online shop, but that would be the last thing to do.

That would be, as I say, buying the PS2 Jap game in a Asian online shop. But I'm looking for other possibilities of getting the file first.

Had you tried with the original MGS1 for PC to see if it works? The PS version uses a VOX.DAT too, although the arranngement could be a bit different, since they have extra lines in the English version.

With MGS it's a completely different story, as Metal Gear Solid Integral for PC doesn't have a "VOX.DAT" file like in the case of original MGS for PS (two "VOX.DAT", one for each CD). Instead, there's a bunch of .VOX files inside a "VOX" folder. Here's a pic:

The only way to do this voiceover replacement, is to unzip all sounds from the PS "VOX.DAT" (with PSound program, for example) and proceed to rename and adap them to PC .VOX files, in order to replace them. It's possible, but it's not so easy.
