Is there any petitions to get this game ported...

There were a good lot of petitions to get the PlayStation Snatcher and Policenauts games released in the West, but they never amounted to anything, so I think everyone gave up. Kojima still smiles whenever he hears one of his fans tell him how great they though Snatcher was, though, so he still likes the game.

Thats the thing i hate about being a gamer... you have to track high and low for amazing games that never get released in the west because everybodys too busy with Fifa of maddern or need for speed or all the other sequels that hardly improve on the games first released...I WANT SNATCHER GODDAMMIT

You'll have to buy one of these, then-

Snatcher can cost between £45-80, too, so you've got some spending to do!

See, that ticks me off! Why didn't they leave the buttons red for the Genesis 2 and Sega CD 2? I think having a red drive door latch is much more convenient than a black one, in my opinion! Instead, we get one giant slab of BLACK!

It makes me glad to be European... everything else in the gaming world makes me feel like complete shit for it.

Well, for what it's worth, the Megadrive/Mega CD in the picture appears to be Japanese, so don't think it was just Europe that lucked out that time…

It wouldn't make much difference in this case to be Japanese. Kojima ain't rereleasing the game anywhere at the moment.

Mine looks just like it, I think it's just as likely to be European (considering how popular it is in Europe, maybe even moreso).

Well, you lucked out that time…it's not often that Europe gets better goods than North America, but there were a few times:
1. You got Kuru Kuru Kururin in English, which was mysteriously cancelled in America
2. You got Shenmue II in English before anybody else, and it was the best version since it was on Dreamcast and kept the Japanese voice track
3. You got the original design of the Super Famicom, but with the Super Nintendo name
There are probably a few more examples…and plenty more bad ones (don't even get me started on how much I hate playing games on PAL/50hz, purist that I am)

I didn't think Kuru Kuru Kururin was anything too special (just a second rate Super Monkey Ball in my opinion). I didn't play Shenmue II until it came out on XBox, so the only advantage you listed was the SNES design, which I really like. I hate the drab American controllers, too.
Playing games in 50Hz isn't very good, is it? Those massive screenfilling borders on Sonic really piss me off. The fact that you have to wait another 3 months before most games come out is fairly crap, too.
Considering this is a Kojima forum, though, I'm surprised you couldn't think of many more examples.
*Hugs his making of MGS2 DVD, free copy of Document, Special Edition ZOE2 and Snake Eater with extra modes*

I love Kuru Kuru Kururin! Hard as hell, but an ideal portable game. Nothing like Super Monkey Ball in my opinion.

I liked Kururin for a while, but I didn't really think it was all that great. I think it's like Super Monkey Ball because it has you controlling a slidy object through complex levels. It fits in the same genre as Marble Madness and the like.

I'm not a big Kojima fan in general; I thought the man was a total hack until I booted up Snatcher for the first time. I mean, Metal Gear Solid was
designed to appeal to Americans! It's the total opposite in Snatcher; the Japanese versions have stuff that were never meant to be seen by Westerners, and officially, they never were, thanks to censored localization. Thank god for our fan translated MSX version!
But I know there must be more examples of Europe lucking out over the rest of the world out there…every territory gets its own exclusive share of the goods (*cough* *Japan* *cough*).
Oh, you want another example? You guys got Doshin the Giant and we didn't. I've always wanted to try that. And you got the Japanese soundtrack to Sonic CD. Happy now?

Seen as the US got Animal Crossing a full 2 or 3 years before us and that you got more japanese based games than us as a whole.
And your copmpalining about a soundtrack!?
Really your not missing out, dont worry, Doshin isnt that much cop anyway...

Doshin the Giant wasn't very good, but you're right about the Sonic CD soundtrack. We all got the Richard Jaques soundtrack to Sonic R (which is better than the actual game).

Didn't you guys get the MSX version of Metal Gear 1 in English too?

We did! The US would have got it too, but none of you bought any MSXes.

I think it was released in Europe in Autumn 1987, so I would have been a few months old. I didn't get a copy until I was 16, though.

The situation in Europe is really bad I agree. I've also found importing games is actually cheaper!
It's unfortunate, but I think we've seen the last of Snatcher really unless it's an unlockable in MGS4 or something. It's just a pity the game was a victim of unfortunate circumstances and could only really be powered by more obscure consoles.

Me neither! i can only remember faintly seeing a Commodore 64 in a shop back in 93. I hadn't even heard of an MSX until about 4 years ago

I'm not complaining...well...maybe I am...but thanks to the Sonic CD 920 beta (the Japanese version with an American region setting) I can enjoy the soundtrack I was never meant to hear. Yes, I do prefer it over the US soundtrack, except for Tidal Tempest, because I like the scatting in the US version.

I remember the C64 getting a pretty big push in 91 or so with a Terminator 2 cart bundled, they were pretty big in Europe I think. Never heard of an MSX until I got online mind
