Is it worth it?
I own a burned sega cd copy of Snatcher, but I want to support the game so I feel I should buy a legit copy.
The problem is that the Playstation version of Snatcher has been toned down.
The worst offender IMO are the cheap looking cg cutscenes that they used to replace the anime cutscenes of the original. (Well mega cd at least.)

The Sega/Mega CD version of Snatcher is the only one in english. It's also the only one with lightgun support. It's less, censored too. The PlayStation version has a horrible looking CG-intro.
If you prefer how the Sega CD version looks aswell, there's really very little reason to buy the PlayStation version, other than its comfortable controller and Psycho Mantis will be able to detect your save in the japanese MGS.

Go for the PC-Engine version before the PS one.

I agree - Unless you're into collecting each version, it's best to avoid the PSOne edition. If you have to get one of the most recent editions, go for the Sega Saturn version.

But I would be with Osiris in this one.. the PC-Engine version is great in all aspects (manuals, stickers, art) , not that rare and you even get the cd tracks =P
The saturn version has a great CD though.

If you bought it now, you wouldn't be supporting the game's creators, but rather the people who sell imports and charge you outrageous prices for buying them. You're better off sticking with your pirated version.

I'd appreciate if you didn't support piracy either, Missing (Please check the board rules).
And If he wants to get an original copy, that's alright with him.

I'm sure the creators would be hapier to see you own an original copy than a copied one, so buying a copy
does benefit them, slightly.

What difference does it make if I support pirated games? I'm not suggesting anyone else should pirate them -- though I did suggest that the guy shouldn't waste his money importing Snatcher, since he already had a pirated version -- nor am I advocating their use. No need to get upset.

I think you're getting more upset than he is. He's simply referring you back to the rules.

I just don't like people putting words in my mouth because I give an opinion.

Oh yeah s**t!! I just remembered. I've got a pirate copy of the Space Adventure Cobra game, has anyone played it? It's a graphic text adventure and like Snatcher in structure, but with the sci-fi hint of Policenauts - and sooo funny. (I can't remember if it was for MCD or Saturn though....hmm.)
So you know, I'm no fan of piracy, there's nothing collectible about a blank CD with some scribbled ink on. Therefore I would never condone it. But if things become so rare or expensive that they are denying you an experience, then sometimes people have little choice - and it is kept purely for personal use.

That is indeed a Mega/Sega CD game, actually. One of the few outright stinkers ever put out by Hudson Soft. I own it pirated too, and it's really so bad in every aspect of its composition that I'd bet that the only people who ever played it were Snatcher fans who were suffering from post-Snatcher withdrawal that were looking for a Snatcher-like game, no matter how boring and bland it was.
And it was voted something like the 5th or 6th worst Sega CD game ever on some website.

I own an original copy of Space Adventure Cobra for Mega CD and it doesn't look so bad to me. Snatcher is far better, but Cobra is also nice, and I love the Cobra character moods (and the chicks). It was also released for Japanese Super CD Rom (in fact, it was the second game of Cobra over there) and it was based on a Cobra OVA.
