T or M rating

Post by ratperson665 »

If Policenauts was released in the USA would it carry an M rating or a T rating?

Why would they have given it an M rating in the 90's? I don't recall anything particularly explicit.

Dude, the entire game is explicit, not only graphically but especially if you understand all the details the script goes into.

Name 3 adult oriented parts of the script.

1. You can fondle the breasts of most of the female characters, and even look up the skirt of one of them.

2. One character is beheaded in the game in graphic fashion, with his head hanging from the ceiling.

3. One of the biggest parts of the story deals with the illicit drugs trade.

...Shall I continue?

-Jonathan sexually harasses/flirts with most of the female characters.

-You can drink in the game.

-One of the subplots of the game involves kidnapping children for organ harvesting.

And so on. Look, this is ridiculous. Have you even played the game? Do you even know Japanese?

But Snatcher Had a scene with a disemboweled dog, a scene were a guy had his head twisted off and let's not forget the scene were you can see Katrina's breasts under that towel and it still got a T rating. Also if Policenauts was released in the USA wouldn’t they tone it down for western audiences? Also yes I have played the game and no I don't know Japanese.

I'm still surprised Snatcher got a T rating, but there you go. Keep in mind they did remove some stuff from the Japanese version before it came out overseas (mainly sexually-related content).

I think Policenauts would have been toned down a little, but how, I can't say. Most likely the breast touching would have been axed for a start. But if it came out in 1996 in its pure form (which it wouldn't have), it would have gotten an M, I have no doubt.

But anyway, the game never did come out in English and short of Artemio's translation effort, it never will.

Actually I’m going to add English voices to my copy of the PSX version.

I'm honestly suprised people have been this polite for this long. So far, you've come onto this board

(A) Challenging our knowledge when it is pretty laid out how far in-depth the team here has researched not only this Kojima game, but EVERY Kojima game that has ever been released (read Artemio's MGS2 analysis).

(B) Attempting to start a console flamewar under the guise of "an honest question" (then revealing yourself to be a PSX partisan flame-baiter).

(C) Announcing your own project, asking for help while being somewhat of a pest, offering little in terms of actual, honest discourse.

Now, maybe this is all a misunderstanding or completely unintentional, but please take a look at what you're saying because this is becoming slightly irritating to all of us who have been around on this board and project for YEARS now. (Well, myself anyway).

I'm sorry. I have been a bit of a jerk. I wasn't challenging your knowledge of the game in my last post. I just didn't find it very adult oriented. And to prove to you that I'm not a consolist I'll give the Sega Saturn version a second chance. Who knows? I might end up liking it so much I might make it the target of my voice translation project instead of the PSX version. I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

While the ESRB would probably deem the game an 'M' rating, it really doesn't deserve anything more than a 'T'. It's hardly as violent or profane as most 'M' rated titles are nowadays. I don't think you can give a game an 'M' for having an adult storyline (of course, I wouldn't put it past the ESRB.)

Don't know about USA, but as Snatcher got an ELSPA 18+ rating on here, I think a possible Policenauts release on 1996 would have got the same.
