English voices?

If there was a dubbed version of the game under an official localization, who would you like to see do the voices?
I believe it was Johnny Undaunted who first pointed out to me that Steven Blum (Spike in Cowboy Bebop) would make a good Jonathan. I think Greg Eagles (MGS1 and 2) would also make a good Ed. As for the rest of the characters, I don't watch enough dubbed anime or play enough games with voices to really make choices for them.

I'd like to see ratperson665 do ALL of them.

You know what? I agree. Rat, let's hear some of your shots at the voices in the game.

Though I'm sure that'd be a riot to hear, how about the chick that played Rose as Karen Hojo (since there was that deleted scene where she was in MGS2 anyway, and if I remember right the same woman played Rose and Karen in the JPN versions.)

Yeah, she wouldn't be a bad Karen. And they have the same Japanese VA, yes.

I remember now who I think would be a great Jonathan: Craig Bierko. I was watching 13th Floor a couple of months ago when it hit me.
Hell, like Hayter with Snake, he even looks like him.

Unfortunately however, the chances of a professional voice actor acting for a free fan translation are slim. Still, if we can find people who can do good imitations of there voices, that would rock.

Yeah, I know they wouldn't do it for a fan translation (unless one of us knew him, maybe). I was talking about if there was an official localization.

That would rock the house... Maybe even more so than Tenacious D?...

So how come they never got around to making an english version? Or did they?
I never really found out I was just assuming.

It's a long story, and I don't think we'll over know the whole truth unless someone comes out and makes it crystal clear for us.

Maybe Rick Moranis?

Wow, that was completely random.

Urgh. No it wasn't. The man's a beacon of knowledge and wisdom, and I'd like to hear a better suggestion as to who's going to answer this particular question. He's an outspoken Kojima fan and it's a perfectly reasonable assumption to say that he's big on Policenauts, and knows what he's talking about.

Moranis? A Kojima fan?

Yup. Kojima's wanted to give him a cameo voice role in MGS, but nothing turned out to be appropriate. Which is odd considering he would have made a brilliant Johnny Sasaki. I'm sure there's even a character in one of his films with IBS.

Rick Moranis looks exactly like my dad. Maybe my dad can tell us why Policenauts wasn't released in the U.S.

I don't think sharing similar appearances with vaguely obscure American movie actors allows any particular insight into video game release issues, but why not go and ask anyway?

I was just rewatching 2001 the other day, and I think a good English Redwood would be a HAL-like voice, though if HAL could be said to sound somewhat childlike, than a more grown-up voice would suit Redwood well, I think. If you listen to the Japanese actor, he sounds like a Japanese HAL anyway. An emotionless, almost robotic delivery.

You know, I think Nolan North (Uncharted, Assassin's Creed) might make a good Jonathan. Actually, I think he'd be a damned good Jonathan.

^ He's missing something... But not bad, not bad... It's tough as hell to cast someone for Jonathan. I'm thinking around mid-high range, someone... who isn't a character actor (like Blum)... S'what you get when you base a character off of America's play boy of the 1980's.
Greg Eagles is grrreat for Ed though, I think (listening to an interview with him now actually, I think he'd be awesome). I toss Dave to Brad Swaile... Enuka Okuma for Chris...? Saffron Henderson'd make a nice Karen...
....Actually.... now that I think of it.... Y'know who'd make a good Jonathan? Scott Mcneil~ Dusty, mid-range, funny guy .... I'm trying to find a clip of him where he's not being interviewed by creepy-as-fuck fangirls... Ah, found something:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eP-ceM_d2jw ...Redwood's still a mystery.

Not to mention Greg Eagles played Peter Stillman in MGS2 (who was originally going to be Ed Brown, before they took him out and replaced him with Stillman). So yeah, he'd be perfect. Scott McNeil is very talented, so he might make a great Jonathan.
Oh, and Rade Serbedzija is the spitting image of Victor Jurgens, so he immediately fits the role perfectly:
You know what? Gatse Becker would be
perfect if he would be played by Patrick Stewart (who does voiceover work a lot now); I always imagined Gatse Becker sounding like Pat.
MGS4 Spoilers:
Oh, and how does everyone think Jonathan and Ed sound in MGS4?

They sound fine for the characters they are in MGS4. They wouldn't be so good in Policenauts. Maybe MGS4 Ed could be a young Ed (I haven't played much of Policenauts so I don't know if there are any scenes with Ed speaking in flashbacks).

I agree on you there... I wonder if Jonathan does anything but grunt though.

They're sorta portraying Jonathan in MGS4 as a 'strong but silent' type, which I find extremely weird; since it's a complete turnaround from the character in Policenauts. Oh, and Jonathan in MGS4 is modelled after Motosada Mori; the military adviser of the MGS series!
