Oh crap, not ANOTHER poll like this... who cares!? What do people get out of this besides jerking each other off? Oh my handheld is better than yours. Oh OH OOOOOOOOOOOOOH. Jeez, reading opinion polls like fighting over which flavor ice cream is the best... in the end, no one cares who wins cuz we all have our favorite flavors.
Bah, topics like this only serve to promote needless competition and rivalries, not to mention the fuelling of fanboyism. So yeah, I'm pretty much with Made in DNA on this one.

I agree with you both, which leads me to the question (with an overly obvious answer), BEYOND wanting consumers to purchase their hardware/system, why do companies not bother to create versions for all systems available? Yes, of course, it would be more expensive, but one would think that move would keep companies well into the black. I personally have seen games on the DS that I think would be fun on my PSP, but, I am NOT going to spend money on a DS as well, just to get that certain game. I don't see the point. BUT if it were available for both systems, I most CERTAINLY would purchase, no matter WHO made it. So, yes, Virginia, it is about the games.Jonathan Ingram wrote:You're right Missing, it isn't about system wars any more, but the games. We should be grateful that the opportunity exists for us to choose a system, and not be railroaded into one choice. If there is one thing to be said for console wars it is the choices they produce for consumers, and the inevitable upward rise in the quality of games available. It's better that the gap between the DS and the PSP is so close, hopefully it will just spur on more original development of software.
But when it comes to fanboy-ism... well, I'm a ninty fan at heart...

Indeed it is all about the games, and I also agree that a flame war is stupid... but both systems have advantages and disadvantages from every point. These flame wars only happen when either you are defending the platform you have because you don't have the other, or because the person in question is a fanboy.
In response to why not make games available for all the platforms.. well, simple answer would be because it would imply more costs and less quality in general. I say that because they are different platforms, with different development utilities. When a game is multi platform, they develop it over an engine.. not necessarily a bought one, or a complex one, but one that allows them to build the game from a solid ground, and then it is a matter of having that engine running in all the platforms. Thus, this way of making things doesn't bring out each platform to its best... and in most cases, it ends up as a low quality titles that is mediocre.
I believe that competition and variety are great traits, and that we benefit from having options.

I respect the opinions of everyone on this board. However I have my reasons for strongly preferring the PSP to the DS:
Note: Everything listed below is just my opinion. Feel free to think as you see fit.
1. Games. The most important aspect of any system. The PSP has many brilliant games and only a few bad ones. Some of the good ones are listed below.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Coded Arms
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
Miami Vice
Lumines
Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
Pursuit Force
Metal Gear Acid
The Con
Killzone: Liberation
Gunpey
Mercury.
I’m not saying the DS doesn’t have any good games. I have played and loved:
Feel the Magic (Closest thing I’ll ever get to a girlfriend.)
Warioware: Touched
Phoenix Right: Ace Attorney
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
That’s it for DS games I played that I actually enjoyed.
1. Portability. The PSP is sleek, small and the screen is right there when you pick it up. The DS is big, extremely bulky and you have to open it up to play it. Suppose your exercising on a treadmill and want some gaming. Okay easy. You pull out your DS but what’s this? You have to open it to play it! While you’re opening it you don’t pay attention to where your feet are on the treadmill and you fall off! This won’t happen with the PSP!
2. Graphics. The DS’ games (except for the ones I mentioned above) look like something the N64 threw up. The PSP’s games on the other hand have THE BEST graphics I’ve ever seen on a handheld system!
3. Capability. The DS only plays games. The PSP not only plays games but also plays movies, lets you listen to music, you can surf the web with it and you can view photos!
So there you have it. The reasons I prefer the PSP to the DS. Again this is just my opinion. If you prefer the DS I’m fine with that. Different strokes for different folks.
