The way the first cut-scene in MPO starts is reminiscent of the way DGN starts (little bits "fitting" together).

I think that's more of a trademark of Ashley Wood than a reference to DGN, personally.

He does that in his comics? I haven't ready any of his works so I wouldn't know.

I've only read the MGS comics (haven't got the MGS2 ones yet), so I can't really say.

Oh, and another possible reference-
Do you think the view of Antilia in the intro to ZOE is a reference to the view of Beyond Coast in Policenauts intro?

EDIT- Another thing- I just bought Kabushiki Baibai Trainer Kabutore from Play-Asia, today. I doubt I'll play it much, since it's so text-based and I can't read Japanese, but I'll mention any references that I spot.

Another question-
Do you think the name of the MGA2 accessory is a reference to the eyepatch in MGS4, or the other way around? I think the MGS4 trailer that first featured the Solid Eye was shown at the same time as the accessory for MGA2 was announced.

If I remember well, Kojima said he borrowed the name of the MGS4 "optical eyepatch" from the MGA2 accessory.

Sorry for the double post.

SD Snatcher
- In one scene, Gillian must hide his identity while investigating a Snatcher-worshiping religious cult. He chooses "Solid Snake" as an alias (Metal Gear reference).

Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns of the Patriots
- The Middle East city displayed in various trailers looks like Neo Kobe (Snatcher reference).

I thought this sounded strange, so I went to the corresponding Japanese entry and discovered that's a mistranslation. I don't know where they got "environment" from. What Kojima said was 「ネオ神戸」のマーク, meaning the Neo Kobe mark, i.e., this little thing here (the one on the lower-right): http://junkerhq.net/tmp/MGS4-snatcher.jpg. The Japanese instruction manuals of Snatcher talk about how this is the logo of the city, and making this sign with the fingers is a popular greeting between kids, etc. You can see it as the "next page" icon in the Sega CD version.

The building that Snake hides in, in the original MGS4 trailer (not the MGS3 engine one, though) does remind me a little of the Warehouse that Gibson gets killed in, but I'd be surprised if that was deliberate.

EDIT- Kabushiki Baibai Trainer Kabutore arrived today. I've been trying to look for references, but it's a real drag to play without any knowledge of how to read Japanese. Don't suppose anyone remembers Stag Beetles in any other Kojima games? :???:

If Kojima puts loads of references in a stockbroker game, then he really is insane! How could he possibly implement Gillian, Snake etc in a game about finance?

Well, it's fairly plot and character-based, there's also a huge number of business to buy shares from. From what I've heard, all the businesses seem to be real-life ones, but I'd expect the odd "Armstech" or "Joy Division" from Kojima.

Oh yeah, I see what you mean. Maybe if you searched around a bit, Armstech may pop up, saying some thing like, "in financial problems, huge debts rising".

Metal Gear Solid
- From this game on, Solid Snake smokes Moslem bent cigarettes, which originated in Policenauts.

I was sure I added that already, but it seems I didn't. Thanks for noticing.

MGS3:

Volgin touches Snake in the 'area meant for pissing' whilst he disguises himself as Raikov; President Johnson does the same to Raiden in MGS2.

And I believe that the original reference was to Escape from LA...

I'm not doing any references from the same canon series. If I start doing that then it might get quite complicated. What is a reference and what is a recurring theme or plot device? Does MGS reference MG2:SS by using many of the same ideas and puzzles? Is MGS2 referencing MGS with the whole "simulation of Shadow Moses" thing? It gets a bit complex with a series that constantly borrows from itself.

Policenauts
- (Found on Wikipedia) One of the newspaper articles on the wall of Jonathan's office is from the Shin Kobe Shimbun, the literal translation of which being Neo Kobe Newspaper (Snatcher reference).

Policenauts Pilot Disk
- In the FOXHOUND entry, there are some artworks for the then-upcoming Metal Gear Solid (Metal Gear Solid reference).

Metal Gear Solid
- Gray Fox’s exoskeleton was built by Tokugawa Heavy Industries (you can read it on this artwork : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v193/ ... ugafox.png).

Metal Gear Solid 2 : Sons of Liberty
- Raiden is using red artificial blood, a reference to the third-generation red artificial blood from Policenauts.
- (Found on Wikipedia) The box sorting devices in the Strut E Parcel Room also bears a Tokugawa Heavy Industries insignia (Policenauts reference).

Zone of the Enders 2 : The Second Runner
- Jehuty and Anubis are “twin” mechas (thus, equal in power) who fight against each other. The only thing that can make one beat the other is the Runner’s will (In Metal Gear Solid, Solid Snake and Liquid Snake are “twin” brothers -thus, equal in power- who fight against each other. Snake won against Liquid because he didn’t care about his genes and wanted to live.)

Metal Gear Solid 3 : Snake Eater
- After beating The Boss, you must give her the final blow to kill her (In Zone of the Enders 2 : The Second Runner, after beating Aumaan Anubis, you must give it a last blow to destroy it).

Actually, this has got me looking through Poliecnauts.net for references, and I've found a couple of new ones, but I don't have much knowledge of the game, so you'll have to help me out.

Are there any references to "Moonsault" anywhere other than the database in Policenauts?

Yeah, there are a whole bunch of references like that in the game, but I was going to wait until people have played it before I listed them. What do you think?

Anyway, Moonsaults are at a party in Act 1. Another one is chaos system (Cunningham's couch). It's mentioned throughout the game. Also, the glass in Cunningham's office in Snatcher is adjustable glass (though it's translated differently there).
