Trivial question about Jean Jack Gibson (SPOILERS)

Post by secretplot »

Is it ever explained WHY Jean ate buffalo at outer heaven, knowing full well that it would make him sick? it's never properly explained in the game.

The only reason I can think of would be if he knew he was in danger, and decided to eat buffalo so investigators could find out where he'd been?

I guess the Snatcher would've suspected that he'd been followed by Jean if Jean had just sat there and watched him, so he ate buffalo, to pretend as if he's just a normal customer.

By the way, I heard that in the japanese version it's not bufallo, but whale meat. Is that true?

Yes, it is (which makes more sense in a place like Japan).

surely he could've eaten something else--outer heaven's dealings in buffalo/whale meat is supposed to be shady, so i doubt it'd be the only thing on the menu...

You know, that does seem kind of random, even if it's whale meat (because I'm guessing either was still bad considering his ulcer).

But we don't know for sure what else they were serving...might've been something much worse, so he decided to eat whale meat.

I doubt that he did it to leave traces. Okay, it was a smart move in the end, because it helped Gillian to track down the Snatcher, but I don't think that was Gibsons intention when he ate that meat. I mean, who is seriously going to think:"I better eat that whale meat in case I get killed, so that they can analyze my corpse and find a clue about what I've been doing,".

Sounds a little far fetched.

I think Gibson is designed to be noticeably foreign, so his taste in food might be a little strange. He may also be eccentric enough about his tastes to eat at a place like Outer Heaven, when he knows it might get him ill.

I'm not sure if that's it. Just another theory.

That's the impression I got, from the buffalo and all of the other hints he left behind. Knowing he was close, finding Queens Hospital and the underground subway lines, he likely thought death was inevitable and left all of these clues for his successor.
