I think Suda and Kojima decide what will happen together, then Suda writes the scripts, and Kojima checks if he likes them. If he does, they give it to the actors, it gets recorded, edited, and put on air.

That's my understanding of it, anyway.
So it's TTS all over again then...not a collaboration really. Be honest.

Well, if Kojima and Suda come up with the plot together, then it is. Suda just writes the dialogue and narration. I'd imagine that they both decide what actually happens, plotwise.

EDIT- Do we actually have something to call this, other than Project 'S', yet?

In this article, they made it unclear that Project S is only a radio drama; they said 'the first in a series of works of Snatcher'. What? :???:

The 1up article did the same thing, they said it's the first of a series of things with, hopefully, a game on the way too.

I was explaining to my friend why they were putting out a radio drama, instead of the more obvious choice of making a new game and leaving it at that. I told him that when KCEJ became Kojima Productions, they made it clear that they wanted to explore more forms of media than just games (thus the "Show Maybe" magazine from E3 2006 and the previous IdeaSpy radio drama), but they haven't done much with it, yet. Maybe Project 'S'/Project "S"/Project S/Project-S/etc. is a way to fully explore the idea?

How's a Snatcher anime sound?

Amazing idea! I would jump at the chance to watch that. ZOE got its own anime (not involved with the original team, of course) and we all know what Policenauts used anime graphics, so yeah, that's certainly possible. Amazing, I'm so happy now. Art should change the news; it's not just a radio drama; it's the first in a series of things to happen, wow. But hell, Suda must have really sold the whole 'Snatcher is awesome' talk very well with Kojima, as we know, he's one very hard man to convince to return to games' series. Thanks Suda, I must confess my love for you now, you've certainly made my day (you too, Kojima-san, of course) ! God, I'm just going to have to buy all of Suda's old games to play now (I'm interested fully now), and catch up with why exactly he's so well acclaimed (only played Killer7; great game). And if the man's got great taste, as I have found, and has made investigation games, then I should love his works, as I did Killer7.

I was an instant fan of Goichi Suda's once I had played killer7. Despite the fact that it was my first Suda game, I realised that the game had really great direction. After reading his interviews, I realised that he had some incredibly thoughtful views on the current state of gaming, and could become a great innovator if he was given more attention (which he seems to be gaining with the help of some choice creators).

I've already got Michigan and 3 versions of killer7 (GC, PS2 and PS2 promo). I'm planning to see how many of his games I can find in Den-Den Town this summer.

Hopefully this will be good news, but if something happens and they mess Snatcher up, there will be hell to pay. I still don't know if we'll see a new game, though, as Kojima's quote in Edge still sticks out in my mind.

There was also the survey they did at TGS last year where they mentioned other media, e.g., manga, anime, films, etc.

6) What sort of collaborations would you like to see us do?

1. Films (65.6%)

2. Anime (55.7%)

3. Publishing (manga, novels) (46.9%)

4. TV (36.3%)

5. Music (28.2%)

Sadly, Kojima's earlier games are virtually unknown among many Japanese gamers today. I remember talking to a kid last year, who was this big MG fan, and I asked him if he'd played Snatcher or Policenauts, and he was like, "What are those?" Snatcher scored even lower than Policenauts (which only got 3.3%) on the question, "Which game would you like to see a sequel for?"

Well, all Kojima said to Edge was that he didn't think a text based adventure would sell, now. He might try a different genre. If fan interest is anything to go by, Pheonix Wright has proven that there is still a lot of interest in text-based adventures (on the DS, at least). Some reconsideration might make them go ahead with the original idea, but I think there's a high chance we'll get a slightly different game.

Notice; the top choice might have gotten the MGS movie the greenlight!

And about that kid you spoke with; that's just one person, I know the polls were harsh and all, but hell, it was up against the original MG games, of course it was going to do badly. Besides, you're a member of TUS; you have seen how many people were wanting anything Snatcher related. Some even said they would buy a Wii for a Snatcher game, alone. Now, put into perspective; people are now taking more notice of Kojima now, since they know MGS4 will be his last MGS game, they want to see what else he can do; curiosity can certainly help in these situations. I do believe if a Snatcher game would be released, that it was do at least reasonably well, it wouldn't bomb, that's for sure, but wouldn't be a massive success either I don't think.

And 87th's right; if a new Snatcher game would be released, it most likely wouldn't be a text based adventure, unless it was released for the DS. I mentioned before, perhaps a free roaming environment; ala Deus Ex/Shenmue sort of idea? That would be fun.

@ Henry, actually the fact is that almost nobody of MGS fans have ever heard about Snatcher or Policenauts games.

Yes of course at TUS or here everyone knows those games but that's it.
Example at MGSForums.com which is maybe biggest MGS forums around. There is only few who have played Snatcher or Policenauts, and almost nobody have ever heard about Kojima's other games than MGS.

That's sad but true...

It was more than just one kid. That was just one example. I've seen it happen before even in the comments section of his own radio show.

Comment:
"Ha, Kojima-san misspelled Porinosuutsu (Polinosuits) Porisunootsu (Policenauts)."
Another comment:
"Actually, you're wrong. Policenauts is a game he made before."

They were both also completely absent from Famitsu's Top 100 Readers' Games list of 2006.

Also, with any future Snatcher game, it wouldn't be us they're targeting, it would be the mainstream market. They know hardcore fans will buy the game anyway. They have an uphill battle in this respect, though the situation is better for them now than it was with the Sega CD 13 years ago. These other projects will help, at least in Japan, but not much overseas if they don't leave the country. Releasing those overseas will be a gamble for them, as right now the game is still largely unheard of. If they don't, any localized version of a game would depend solely on the press coverage. Look at the MGS radio drama -- MGS1 turned into a huge hit, and they could've released a translated version of the radio drama overseas in the build-up to MGS2, but they didn't.

And last, if they completely change the game system, would it still be Snatcher? I can envisage many problems with trying to make a 2D game like that into a 3D game, the same ones I'm sure you can come up with. Many of them would stem from the fact that it wouldn't be the same game as before, which is why I think so many people want a sequel -- purely for the nostalgia, not whether it's in the best interest of the franchise.

I actually thought of Snatcher's graphics as more like the look of Killer7, but different of course. I do see your point, but hell if I know what they're going to do. I guess all we can do is wait. I didn't say that Snatcher was popular or anything, I just pointed out, that it is not as unknown as you all seem to think it is. With recent news like this; interest may flow, who knows. I'd prefer an anime rather than another game anyway, less chance of mucking that up, whilst being able to retain that quality of animation.

Just read something interesting at Kotaku regarding Project-S. Let's keep the fingers crossed for a game.

So he wants his games to be niche and not be commercial successes?

The reason for my cautious optimism is I remember TTS. I was so excited when it was announced -- an update for one of my favorite games, and half the reason I bought a GC -- then when I actually played it, I realized why it was doomed to fail. I won't go over those reasons here again, but you probably know what I mean. Now it seems to be happening all over again (if they do plan on making a game). I don't trust anyone but Kojima to handle his own games.

I understand what you mean, but I'm a very big Suda fan. I'm more interested in No More Heroes than I am MGS4. I trust him to make a good job of this. I respect your decision to not let yourself become excited over this, but I, simply, can't help myself.

I keep a similar position to Osiris'.

Regarding changing the news, I rather not change them. I trust more on what Project Itoh said in this thread and I'll listen to the actual Hidechan episode for a confirmation, though I must probably wait until Osiris tells us about that, since he can understand it waaaaay better than I can.

I also keep a very cautious posture. The only way I see a good Snatcher game happening is ala Hotel Dusk, and I don't believe thatw as a huge commercial success.

It will be very difficult to adapt something. Generally I am against remakes/sequels of this sort since they are purely commercial. They tend to just be a completely different thing by a different theme, just with updated graphics and adapted for the new audiences, and standing on the name of a giant.

In this case it is apparently born from love of the property by Suda, and Kojima allowing progress with it cautiously. It is obvious they've planned it quite well for it taking such a long time since they mentioned it. But I feel that it is best that all related work be tangential, just as this Radio Drama. At least until they set a tone and figure if there is really some story to explore. There won't be any big bad guy, since we already know how that turned out,. And it would be even worse if they come up with a MGesque plot twist about how Modnar was not really in charge and stuff. Not that I didn't like MG, but I believe must of us feel a bit tired of what was Snatcher-like on MG, the way the plot is driven. Focus has turned to technical proficiency, since they excel at it. More on gameplay and innovation.

As Osiris mentions, the companies behind won't let them make stuff just for the love of it if it makes no money on the mainstream. Thats why a Radio Drama is prefect just now, they are anyway doing podcasts and stuff, so not much to loose there and you can test the waters just as 87th said. Still, I wouldn't bet on a sequel, and I am not sure I want one. Of course it can be like with MGS3, i wasn't that enthusiastic about it and they did deliver a great game,

And I know how you feel, and I understand why. Hopefully whatever projects do come of this will turn out great.

Oh sure, but as of now, I'm starting to lose the feeling in my fingers as I've had them crossed so hard.

Oh, and Artemio? Could you move this topic to the Snatcher forums?

EDIT- Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I read in the past that Project S was scheduled for Wii, right? So even though they talked pretty much only about the radio drama at the event, I'm hoping the game still involved.

Meh, unless it was complete garbage (like Lunar:DS, which I of course beat anyway) I'd take a Snatcher game any way it came. I'm a whore like that.
