According to a recent press announcement, Konami has brokered a deal with Sony BMG Music Entertainment to allow the digital distribution of Konami's entire library of video game soundtracks. The music will be prepared for release on major online retailers, including iTunes, Rhapsody, and various mobile service providers.

Konami's noteworthy contributions to video game music history stem back to as early as the days of the NES, when catchy, memorable tunes from games such as Contra and Castlevania became a benchmark for the company. Since then, the video game publisher has made massive strides in the field of music composition with such notable series as Silent Hill, Suikoden, and Dance Dance Revolution, all of which are accompanied by acclaimed soundtracks.

"Music has been at the foundation of Konami's games for decades, and now consumers will be able to enjoy these classic tunes on their own," said Michael Rajna, Music Manager at Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "Sony BMG Music Entertainment's strong digital distribution network allows us to reach the widest possible audience and bring Konami's library of industry-defining music to users on PCs and mobile devices."

Unfortunately, no preliminary information was given regarding the list of initially available titles, nor was there an announcement of a scheduled release period. However, the press notice did mention that all music will also be available on Konami's main site at www.konami.com.

Sounds good, but the only soundtracks i like from Konami are Silent Hill series, Metal Gear Solid series & Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night. And i have every MGS & SH soundtrack. Also, it might not come to iTunes in Denmark, cause the danish iTunes don't have all the content from (for example) UK or America.
What?

I wonder if more game companies doing digital distribution of music will mean they're going to start cracking down on sites like Galbadia Hotel.

I hope they sell lossless, or at least > 192 Kbps mp3s...

That would be a way of having a better product than other sites, attacking a specific market.

In (semi) related news, Konami have announced their plans to launch a series of mobile phone games in Europe. I know they have the same line in America and they haven't done this, but I'm still keeping optimistic that they'll bring out a translated version of the mobile MetalGear1+2 ports.

I would' ent hope for Metal Gear 1 or 2. Konami probably thinks: it's already out with Subsistence, so your ain't getting it on mobile!

Doubt it. If they see it as easy money, it'll come out. They're more likely to forget about it altogether.

They also got a Twinbee mobile game, which I'd LOVE to play! But I doubt it will ever set foot outside Japan.
