...Japanese voice with English subtitles? With so many versions, and with a few of the Japanese versions having English voice, I wonder if a version exists--perhaps one of the re-releases?--where they left in the English text as an option but went back to the original Japanese voice.
I wonder about this because I read lots of posts here where people buy X version of MGS1-3 in order to hear the Japanese voice, but it's unclear to me whether these people do so because they understand Japanese or because they are simply so hardcore they don't mind not understanding every line of dialogue.
I'd love to play through MGS (any of the games... but mostly 2) in Japanese, but I'm not that interested in sitting through hours of dialogue I don't understand. Is there any version of MGS1-3 available now that can help me out, or am I still doomed until my Japanese skills drastically improve?

P.S. Incidentally, I heard once that MGS4--being on Bluray--might include both Japanese and English voice tracks. I seem to remember some press conference where a Sony or Konami rep said this is why Bluray was so nice, because it made simultaneous worldwide release into Japanese and English easier since you could simply produce 1 version of the disc. Has anyone else heard about this? I'd be very excited if MGS4 contained an option for Japanese voice out of the box.

Re: Japanese Versions of MGS -- Do *any* of them have...
That was from E3 2006, I believe. Given the attention that's been drawn to MetalGear's voice acting, and the fact it's being released simultaneously worldwide, I'm currently in the belief that they'll add both tracks.Geoduck wrote: P.S. Would it be possible to extract the text from an English version and insert it in the Japanese version (or extracting the voices from the Japanese, but I imagine that's harder) in order to have Japanese voices with English subtitles?
I guess that with MGS2 and 3 it would be more difficult, but with MGS (you can emulate the game easily and all that)? The same way they are translating Policenauts, but in this case the text would be already translated.
The Japanese acting is great (I think Otsuka is way better than Hayter), and having the game with Japanese voices and being able to understand what they are saying (considering I don't understand Japanese, he) would be fantastic.
