Just thought I would check on the progress of project and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Looking forward to the release, no matter when it comes out - be it in 2007 or beyond! Thanks for your effort.

Happy Holidays, SnatchedExcel. As far as the project goes, here's a summary of the last few steps:

1) A "final hurdle" is being worked on, which can only be done by one of the programmers. Once the developer has figured out a solution, work will continue. (As of right now, they have not discovered a workable solution to the issue.)
2) An English version of the Credits must be created and implemented.
3) Minor graphical changes must be created and implemented.
4) The patch must be beta tested, and final adjustments must be made.

Once these have all been completed, the patch will be ready for us. From what I understand, Steps 2 and 3 require the completion of Step 1, so work has halted. It has been approximately 3 months since the "hurdle" was reached, but, rest assured, the patch is still in development.

I'm just an fan of the project like most of us here, so I may not be completely right. This is what I've gathered from Osiris' posts. (The fact that he summarized these points in an earlier post made this list much easier to make.)

Thank you for the update, Kojima_Devotee. I'm curious, what exactly is the hurdle you're facing?

Well, I'm personally not dealing with any hurdles, but the programmer dealing with Policenauts' ASM is.

I'm not sure what the actual programming problem is; Osiris didn't specify. If I had to throw out a guess, I'd blame text implementation, as that's usually the culprit. (Fitting English text where Japanese characters originally were can be quite difficult. Mostly because we English-speakers just simply need more space, and that results in searching for ways to re-route the text to a place the game can find and display it.) Again, that's just a guess.

Ack damn, I meant to say "you're all". Anyway, thanks for the heads up. To quote the Guiness advert, good things come to those who wait.

just a suggestion but maybe the guys could ask for some assistance with troubleshooting from other translation groups, like guys experienced in translating PS1 games

For example Tales of Phantasia was successfully translated and released a few days ago. As a JRPG it is very heavy on text so they might have had similar problems:

Yes, we've been in touch with them and they provided some helpful solutions. Right now it's just a matter of finding the necessary time. We'll post an update soon, seeing as the end of 2007 is drawing near!

Wow, progress sounds great. You guys are doing a wonderful job!

Riddle me this. If Policenauts or even Snatcher were to be released for download off the Playstation Network, would you consider making a patch compatable with the new format?

I understand that the initial patch is where your attention falls at the moment, followed by the different versions of the game. I'm just posing an idea that just poped into my head.

That would not be technicaly feasible, legal or practical for the users =P

I don't think we ever got in contact. :P You are probably mistaking my project with Cless'. I'm from the other group, the one which released the patch in 4 months.

Any chance you guys who did the Tales translation would be willing to help out here, assuming you aren't already, that is. It'd be much appreciated. Thanks for your dedication to translating awesome games, guys!

I think I can assist the team on technical problems and Psx hardware questions, but I can't really do more because of my many projects. :/

It's good to know there's a lot of support for the team on the technical side as well as the fan side - I was starting to worry about that Assembly Hurdle.

Well, I have absolutely no idea how you'd get Policenauts working on an iPod, but perhaps a PSP.

At the moment, in terms of progress, Osiris obtained some helpful info to pass the "hurdle" he mentioned 3 months back. Some other talented PlayStation hackers gave him some "helpful solutions." So, when Osiris releases the next update, I'm sure there will be good news.

Actually, the helpful solutions I mentioned was referring to contact quite a number of months back. The coming "update" is basically to say progress remains the same and the new date is going to be "when it's done" so people stop emailing us saying we broke our promise/lied to them, etc! The second half of 2007 date was always tentative.

Not really an intentional reference, I used those words since I do think that's the best way to describe the situation.

Damn, I really hoping for a positive update. As I've said in the past, no one should go by my posts alone - I just try to summarize Osiris' updates. Nevertheless, I didn't realize you guys were getting "you broke your promise" e-mails. I say ignore those comments; The majority of us are patient and appreciate heavily what the team is doing. Even with the delay, we're thrilled progress has gone has far as it has.

I do have some nagging questions, though. Will you guys consider contacting Gemini or any other known team that has worked (or is working) on a PlayStation hacking project? Is the hurdle so severe that the project may halt indefinitely? Have you guys been able to at least work on other aspects of the patch despite the Assembly problem? Will the team ever release a screen shot or two of the current patch in motion? I hope I'm not out of line to ask such questions, but it has been 3 months since the last major update.
