Chen Zhoufeng is the Mandarin pronounciation written in Pinyin to be more precise. The Cantonese form would be "Chan Jaufung", but most dictionaries seems to use Mandarin.
It is just me or is Chin/Chen/Chan the most overused Chinese surname ever? Besides Lee/Li of course. Its like the Chinese version of Smith.
Both, the PC Engine and Sega CD versions of Snatcher had some weird romanization choices for its character names, but I'm guessing its probably due to lack of proper translation resources. At least its better than the romanizations used in the MSX2 version of Metal Gear 2. Kyanbel and Horry, nuff said.

Comment from a new poster on this subject!
Nice to meet everyone at JunkerHQ!
I wanted to ask a question about this project in particular as I am a huge fan of both Snatcher and the PC-Engine. I am very excited that a group is serious about translating this game into English based on the Sega-CD port. There is a question that I would like answered, tho, that is seriously bugging me.
I actually prefer the English dubbed Sega-CD version of the spoken dialog, and I am wondering if the voice tracks from the SCD version can be spliced into the PCE-SCD2 port. Could something like this be accomplished by taking the audio files from the SCD rom and included it in the patch?
If there are enthusiasts who would prefer a version of the translation with Japanese voices, perhaps separate versions could be made for the ones who feel like dubbed and those who don't?
As this is my first time speaking since registering here, if this has been addressed earlier in these forums, I apologize for my ignorance and beg forgiveness.
Once again, it's good to be a part of JunkerHQ!

I think one of the main goals of the project is for people to play the game with the original Japanese acting, so don't hold your breath. I really like the English dub too, but it's a better concept to have both sets of acting playable with English text.

No timeframe has ever been given for this particular project.

You know i was thinking, theoreticly if someone wanted an "english dub" of sorts couldnt they just take the mps's (assuming the pc engine version has them) from the pc engine version and replace them with the sega cd mp3's? or would there be alot of parts that are too different?

Without getting too technical, not all of the speaking parts are MP3s. Besides, the timing would be way off. Saying something in Japanese isn't always as quick as saying something in English (and vice versa).

I also like the english dub, but I looked up parts of the Japanese version on youtube, and I actually thought that they did an excellent job. I've already beaten snatcher on the MSX and the SCD, so this will be another way to experience Snatcher.
Oh yeah, noob question but, do I need to buy a new pc to play the pc-engine games? I'm not really sure how it works, so if anybody could give me some links on how I could play this version of snatcher on my pc that would be great.
P.S. I'm not looking for emulators, because I'm a bit of a collector, so I don't mind paying the extra buck.

Despite it's name the PC Engine is not a PC but a game console, so to play the PCE version on PC you'll need an emulator or you have to buy the console.

I would like to help translating the PC-Engine version. Currently I own the pilot disk and the regular edition.

 Re: PC Engine Version Translation
The PC-Engine is called the TurboGrafx-16 in America (Also in Europe I believe) like Charlie Johnson said its a console not a PC, also if you have a copy of Snatcher it plays great on the MagicEngine emulator ( http://www.magicengine.com/) but you have to pay for it, its cheaper then an actual PC-Engine (TG16). Also is the translation being done at the same time as Policenauts or is it being done afterwards, just curious since there hasn't been a set time frame or a post in a while about the project, not trying to rush anybody just thought I'd ask.

Thanks for the link man, that's not all that expensive, so I'll probably order real soon. It's cool, because this way I won't ever have to deal with trying to emulate the thing (talk about a pain).

 Re: PC Engine Version Translation
I recommend you use Ootake instead. http://www.ouma.jp/ootake/It's free, easy to use and the compatibility with Snatcher is better. Doesn't look as good as with MagicEngine though.

Charlie Johnson - I tried Ootake but It wouldn't let me save my game for Snatcher, do you know how to get it to save.

 Re: PC Engine Version Translation
Hey, i recently (5 secs ago) saw quite a difference between the SCD and the PCE version of Snatcher. In the turbocycle crash scene in the Sega CD version, we see Gillian hanging in the left side of the Bike. HOWEVER, in the PC Engine version, he's running behind it. That sort of explains Metal's phrase "You could use the exercise, Gillian." I'm sure everyone noticed it before but i thought "What the heck!" http://youtube.com/watch?v=VxsAo_geHDk - PC-E Version http://youtube.com/watch?v=BoJ8TsGh_b8 - Sega CD Version.

 Re: PC Engine Version Translation
Yes indeed, they made the Sega CD version much less cartoony than the Japanese versions. What sucks is how the animation of Gillian running behind the motorcycle looked fine and then they replaced it with this awful looking static graphic. Ah well.

They also took out the scene after the explosion in Queen Hospital, the one with Gillian all... Messed up? Crap, I can't explain that in English.

 Re: PC Engine Version Translation
There was no shooting scene against the insectors in the PC engine version of the game?
To be honest, I've never played the PCE version (I would love to, though). So far, I've played the PC88, MSX2, and Sega CD versions, and I could care less about getting the PS1 and Saturn versions.
Does anyone know if Snatcher works perfectly on a U.S. Turbo Duo, or are there some issues versus playing it on a real Japanese PC Engine?

 Re: PC Engine Version Translation
Oh, there is a shooting scene in the PCE version... I don't remember it from the MSX version, so maybe it was added for the CD version.
And I don't think the PCE has any protection for the Cd games... But I don't know for sure.

 Re: PC Engine Version Translation
i just played through the PCE game last month, It's just like the SCD version with a slightly wider "color" range and there are some scenes and things NOT in the Sega CD game, but I prefer the Sega CD version to ANY version. (mainly cause it's in english...LOL)
Act 3 is more complete on the SCD, better ending credits, and it has that airport sequence extended with the "Ranking".
I DID love the "Anime" goofy images and faces gillian makes in the PCE, and of course the "porn tape", "panty snatching" and different "mask" choice in Plato's (that's just a few of the BIG differences...).
I'd love to get my hands on the "translated" version though!
BTW: I think "8bitsonic" is talking abou the PSX and Saturn versions, I have played through the Saturn version....and it has a "shooting/puzzle" part added to the "airducts" after the "queens" explosion, and some other changes...some good...some terrible.
